How to turn a Zalman into a Nexus ?

I've been an extremely satisfied user of the Zalman ZM300-AFC Power Supply for the last months. It's extremely quiet but in a quiet environment, not quiet enough, there being a wind rushing sound coming from the exhaust fan, which can be really annoying as it's the ONLY noise being made by the PC. S...

I tried this out some while ago. I've tried to remove as many fans from my Lian-Li PC60 case as is humanly possible, so the ONLY fan actually running other than the CPU fan is the one in the Zalman ZM300-BLP power supply! There are NO additional case fans or anything stupid like that. P4 1.8 Northwo...

I agree with Old Dude, the 300BLP is not a patch on the ZM300A-APF, and i've had both! The ZM300A-APF is really impressive, something that Zalman can be really proud of!!

Sorry, don't agree. I've had no problems with the ZM-CU17 and Radeon 8500, in fact i'm using it as i write this EMail. I'm no gamer, but the 8500LE without doubt DOESN'T produce anywhere as much heat as an NVidia 4400 or 4600, so it shouldn't be a problem !!!

There seem to be a variety of ways of removing the original heatsink. 1. You can use the freezer trick (place VGA card in Antistatic bag, place bag in Freezer for 20-30 minutes, then just prise the heatsink off with an old Credit card), which seems to be the most recommended method. 2. Place old Cre...

Well, i'm also running a Hercules Radeon 8500LE. Ripped the supplied fan and heatsink off last weekend and replaced it with the mentioned ZM17CU. Runs like a dream, even after 1 hour of 3dMarks 2001 looping, the card and heatsink don't even get remotely hot. The only fans in the whole case are in th...

Here is probably the first review of the ZM-80HP in Germany, and they didn't like it at all, but then they are also more interested in performance than silence. It just seem strange that Juad's review should be SO different from this one !!!

My Lian-Li UC60 is the older model (now 18 months old), without USB connectors in the front panel. The newer models not only have USB, they also have a fan outlet on the top panel, so 4 fans in all, totally OTT. The ADDA fans are only loud when running at full speed, if you set the speed controller ...

I also use a Lian-Li, in my case the PC60. I just disconnected the ADDA fans completely, they ARE : 1. Loud 2. Don't actually seem to make more than 1 or 2 degrees difference even when running a P4 at 1.8Mhz. If I were you, i'd just do the same, disconnect the things. With your setup, you could prob...

The original Zalman Power Supply was anything but quiet, the new one (ZM300A) is REALLY impressive, extremely quiet but also not exactly cheap. I'm a Pentium 4 user (1.8 Northwood), and have the Zalman 6500A-CU CPU cooler running on it at the lowest setting (1450rpm). Again, extremely impressive. Ju...

Good news, it's not the Zalman !!! The PC is now so quiet that the noise I have been hearing has been there all along, it's the HDD, a Maxtor 4D060H3 basically a very quiet unit, but I suppose when something is turning at 5400 rpm there has to be SOME noise. Irritating none the less !! I'll have to ...

Yes, that hissing sound is exactly as you describe it, sort of like the noise you get when frying an egg !! I've let the machine run overnight and I think that this hissing has now disappeared or has reduced in level, unfortunately I can't tell because the fan has definitely increased in speed, so t...

No, it isn't a hissing sound exactly, very difficult to describe really. I'll wait for a few days and see if it goes away. Th rumbling is DEFINITELY coming from the fan, maybe that will also disappear with time !

Zalman ZM300A-PFC

I've always been a fan of Zalman products, been using them for the last couple of years, but I seem to have trouble with their Power Supplies. When the first generation PS became available, I bought one only to get rid of it a week later because it was too loud in use, and reverted back to an Enerma...

Enermax / Chieftec marriage

A few days ago, I unfortunately blew up a Chieftec HPC-300-202 Power Supply by connecting up the Floppy Disk drive incorrectly. Chieftec Power Supplies are some of the quietest on the market, especially the 300W model. The fan control electronics seem to be very effective. I decided to use these in ...
