Sounds like Aris' issue is more with content than the thread topic: ads and ad-blocking. Would getting "back to basics" excuse annoying and potentially-infectious advertisements? IMO the answer is obviously "no" - no qualitative change (positive or negative) in a site's content will override my dis...

While the content on this site is unique and helpful, i dont know if i would say its "indespensable". There are maybe two dozen articles on this site that are truely needed. But i'd say lately, most of the articles are fluff. Only written to try and draw in readers to the site to get more money from...

In line ads are the reason I run AdBlock. I'm one of those people who highlights as they read. In-line ads royally mess me up (which I guess is the goal). ME TOO! inline adds and pop up adds drive me crazy. Sorry to SPCR, but i block all adds. Find someplace else to make money, not at my expense. Y...

"basically"

It either is, or it isn't. You take any sentence with this word, and then take this word out, and it still makes perfect sense. Its (basically) redundant.

"unconditionally basic salary" A.K.A. "Welfare" We tried it in the states. Problem is most people, if given the choice, would rather just be a bit less wealthy and sit at home watching tv all day instead of actually contributing to society. Then there's the other extreme, which is to set a standardi...

Windows 7 Questions

1. Windows 7 Pro (upgrade) - Is this a full version of the OS? They say i can upgrade from XP to win7, but the kernel is different, so is it just a cosmetic change or is it really the entire OS? If its the whole OS, then whats the difference between the upgrade and the full retail version? 2. If i b...

i7 920 D0 Unlocked?

I thought all Core i7 920 processors had a locked multiplier? Well i got this D0 stepping 920 last week and in the bios it says its unlocked, and i have been able to boot into windows with the multiplier at 20, 18, and 15. It gives multiplier options from 12 to 21. So is the CPU actually unlocked or...

CPU Load Line Calibration?

I do a google search and it seems about 50/50. Some review sites have it on, some have it off. I read a review of an MSI board at XBit Labs saying it kept the vcore from dropping too low. So is there a consensus on this? Does it hurt to have it on? If your wondering, its in relation to the following...

Regardless of my thoughts on 'too hot' at load, an idle temp of 84 is way too hot. Temps will jump significantly once you put any kind of load on it, and will throttle. People are overclocking to 4 GHz with some pretty good cooling systems, ie with high speed fans. Overclocking and SPCR do not ofte...

An idle temp of 84 is *way* too hot. Under load that will jump up by 20-30 degrees. Not to mention, you want some head room for warmer weather. Lastly, running the chip near (or at) its thermal cut off point can reduce its life. Also, just getting to bios does not mean the system is stable. My gues...

Yea its idling in bios at 84c. Granted the fan is only spinning at 600rpm, but when i run it anything over 800rpm its just too loud. I think i'll probably pick up a second 120mm S-Flex and hope the two of them together running at 600-800 will bring idle temps down to around 70c. Thanks for the magic...

Max temp for i7 920?

I've been googling, but so far have yet to find what the max temp for the i7 is. I have read that there is a temp where it throttles its clock speed back to keep it from overheating, but everyone i saw who talked about it didnt mention what it actually was. So at what temp does the i7 start to throt...

The only major problem SSD is facing is that a growing number of analysts are saying that the technological hurdles to go smaller than 22nm may be nearly insurmountable. I remember reading an article about this once with an interview with intel. They said they see a clear path all the way down to 1...

I see no options that mention anything about AHCI

Nope, your components would not work as well. PSU -- already commented on -- much lower efficiency at the power levels of the system -- and way overkill. ROFL, you must be an apple user. Nothing from MS is free.

So far the only thing I've seen in win 7 that makes me want to upgrade from XP Pro are the optimizations for SSD's.

And its not labeled as a "sale" or "special price". Its actually cheeper than WD's 2TB GP drive now, granted the cost per GB is still higher, but the overall cost of ownership is less as long as 80gb is enough space for you. 80gb is at $319 160gb is at $629 This is the first major drop in price sinc...
