Re: Silencing light dimmers

Do you guys in general get completely inaudible dimmers? As in silent in an otherwise quiet room? As in not able to hear that you are using dimmers? Given that I have problems with ALL of my dimmers with all different lights I have from two different renovations and two different electricians, it se...

Re: Silencing light dimmers

Hi Thx for comments. I edited the original post to answer them. I was considering to put some bitumen dampening mat inside the rotary dial, as the noise increases if I pull the rotary dial off and by doing that expose the metal parts of the actual dimmer. Does that sound completely stupid? Being loc...

Silencing light dimmers

Hi After a major remodeling, I have now several light dimmers instead of plain on/off switches in my apartment. They all buzz more or less when the lights are on, audible when it is otherwise quiet. I would love to hear any experiences in silencing these things? EDIT: Answered to questions below: I ...

passive / semi-passive with 3 digital outputs, office use?

Hi I'm looking for graphics cards with the following specs: * office use only, ie. no 3D performance required * at least 3 digital outputs * passive, semi-passive or at least quiet * available * affordable * plug-and-play, ie. no modding, no special configuration required A couple of years ago there...

Re: Quieting a Titan box

I'm pretty much out of the silencing game. IMVHO none of your quoted parts is among the quietest options available, so, to improve the overall outcome, IMHO you should swap all or some of them. I respect your evaluation of the components and I don't disagree with it, I knew it was a compromise as I...

Re: Quieting a Titan box

Hi mentawl, thanks for your comment. I've updated the original post to state that it seems to be the stock fan config of Define R4 - one 140mm in the front, one 140mm in the back. This is not really customized at all yet, the first owner got it preassembled one year ago. I don't dare to change their...

Quieting a Titan box

My previous PC just turned 7 years old and I had been looking for a particular set of components but postponing the purchase as it wasn't that urgent. This changed when I suddenly got a great second hand deal for a setup that was quite close to what I had been looking for. So now I have the followin...

Re: Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 Version

FT05 SLI -- we want to build a quiet dual-card modern gamer in this case but we're not having any luck getting hold of 2 quiet GTX970s or similar. We have a couple Zotac plain jane 970s but the cooler just isn't good enough to keep its fans from automatically ramping up when the GPU hits 90C, and i...

Presumably if you're going for a GTX 980, you will accept something like 30 dBA@1m full load? MikeC, doesn't your latest guide now prove that 25dB at full load is the upper limit for what should be accepted with a GTX 980 - equipped system? Even <20dB with some software side tweaking. I mean why to...

Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide

It's highly irrelevant to me what particular size and model of SSD or RAM was used in the guide, I will pick different ones based on my own use case and bias. The take home message here is that it is now possible to build a top-of-the-line single-gpu gaming system using off-the-shelf components and ...

Re: SPCR's Holiday ATX Gaming Build Guide

Quite close to what I have been planning for myself for Christmas, so this article was highly interesting for me. I'm going to go with SSD-only and have the quieter fans. Can this be made more quiet when gaming (without sacrificing longevity of the GPU) or does it then require physical modifications...

I've a Q9450, running at stock 2.66GHz - it's slightly faster than your CPU. And I have a gtx 460 with it. Still getting good framerates in most games, at 1920x1200 resolution. Crysis 1 is mostly ok, Crysis 2 a bit sluggish.

Re: Want to help Corsair build the best silent case ever?

One non-functional requirement for me is general build quality. I'm not familiar with Corsair cases, but at work I have a Fractal Design Define R4. That case can start to resonate loudly apparently at random for me, and then pushing the sides together forcibly makes the noise stop for the time being...

A simple google search for "foam in bag packaging" explains the method referred to above much better than just waiting for people to explain it one bit at a time. And I believe I'm not alone with this.

So yes, I think this is relevant.

2 pieces of 4GB modules makes more sense also because you can add another 2 later.

Having 4 pieces of 2GB modules would be just plain stupid, as they all would need to be replaced to get 16GB later.

They are building a new nuclear reactor here. It will produce 1.6 GigaWatts. There is even some headroom left for your future upgrades. I don't think it's for sale but consider just leasing the output. It's not that loud and I am sure you could just throw a couple hundred million into a bit of high ...
