Thanks for your input. I have a 4-pin molex pass thru laying around because it came with an Enermax 120 fan I got too so I can try the fan only option. I also have a Zalman 12v > 5.5V connector which I can try as well. Gonna report my results later :)

I'm about to switch my dying rear case fan in my Sonata, probably with a Papst 4412, but I cant figure out the following from the intro of this thread: "The Papst 4412 fans are very nice when undervolted on DC current. They are one of the best quiet 120x25mm fans for restrictive environments. They d...

I'm borrowing this thread since I'm in the same seat. My Antec fan is making wierd noises randomly and I need to switch it. The best alternative seems to be a Nexus 120 but I want to keep the balance between case cooling and noise like I have now. Will a Nexus push less air than the Antec when using...

I don't think the buzz is related to the firmware. My previous 160GB SATA with FW 3.05 did not buzz. Now I'm using a 200GB SATA with fw 3.01 which did buzz at first but seem to already have stopped doing it. Seagates fw versions seem illogical..

7200.7 SATA 160GB - ST3160023AS - Firmware 3.05 Quiet seeks, and no "self-check bee-sound".. This feels very wierd when looking back to other users posts about this firmware.. I don't know what firmware my old 80GB had but it was BIG difference from my current one noise-wise. I would like to see mor...

We should start to investigate why certain models do the offline seeks and some don't. Could it be to the revision of the firmware or where its manufactured? I have owned a 80GB 7200.7 SATA and a 160GB 7200.7 SATA and they act VERY different. The 80GB had extremely loud seeks and the offline scannin...

Interesting thread. In my system the stock Sonata-PSU is the most noisy part, even though it isn't that loud because my internal temperatures is often quite low so it doesnt spin up often. I have read about the Nexus 4090 and hopefully it could make my rig even more quiet. Would love to hear more in...

I would consider buying a 7200.8 SATA IF they have adjusted the Self-Check functionality that is built into the 7200.7-series. That check is very annoying and alot of users are disturbed by it. I emailed Seagate for an answer and I will post here when I get an answer

I think it's clever to keep the holes so that the case and PSU gets well ventilated. Cover them, and most likely the PSU-fan will spin faster and generate more noise. Although, other users may have different opinions about this :)

One drive or two

For long I've been using two drives. One for OS + data and one for Storage. I'm trying to squeeze the last bit regarding silence in my rig and I'm thinking about partitioning my 160GB 7200.7 and getting rid of the 80GB. Is it just me who is too freaked out about this, or wouldnt it be better with ju...

I recommend the SyncMaster 193P - it's simply brilliant! Viewing angle, colors, everything is stunning. I don't know about gaming, but if you work with graphics, business and regular use, you won't be dissapointed.. And it looks nice too..

I just bought Samsung SyncMaster 193P (19") and it is excellent. Colours and viewing angle is very impressive. Gaming I can't say anything about because I don't game, but for graphic work/surf etc its awesome.

And it doesnt make ANY sound whatsoever.

Ralf, I just totally dig that sorbothane suspension. I was really satisfied with my quiet system until I saw that pic. I HAVE to fix that dampening to my drives, since the 7200.7's are quite noisy at seek. Next mission is to find sorbo in Sweden. I know my local HIFI-dealer mentioned using sorbo for...

I suffer from this problem as well with my 80GB 7200.7. Strangely my 160GB 7200.7 never makes a buzz. My rig is very quiet so its very disturbing with this buzzing once in a while, it occurs even more often when the system is cooler (atleast I think so..). From what I have understood, there is nothi...

Is it possible to disconnect the Audio and Firewire cables from the front on the Sonata too loose some cables? I tried a bit but were afriad to break the connectors which looked glued. I will never use these connections so I want to get rid of some cables!

Still no way of ending the Seagates self test?

The buzzing sounds from Seagate SATA's while in idle state has been discussed alot here at SPCR, but it seems there isn't any good way to eliminate the very disturbing 'buzzing' that occurs. My system is very quiet so it sucks to have that additional noise once in a while. Someone mentioned using th...

Questions about Antec Sonata and SLK3700BQE

I'm new to the SPCR forums, and I know that there are several discussions about both the Sonata as well as the SLK3700-BQE but after some searching I still couldn't find any answer to my question so here I go: I am choosing between the two Antec cases and I wonder if both have USB2.0 compatible conn...
