Re: MINI-ITX Kaveri system build

I have plans for using the TFX PSU in a custom made case.

There are adapters available.

Re: First build after 7 years

How would this card compare to a asus strix for noise? I don't know, haven't seen any reviews of that card. The Gigabyte card is factory overclocked and is faster than the Titan X yet manages to be quieter than the stock 980 Ti even though it uses more power. I'd be surprised if the Asus is noisier...

Re: First build after 7 years

I see, I thought you wanted to buy another one... :)

Edit: The Haswell CPU is 2 years old. Yes, it's the best you can get, but Broadwell is launched (which you shouldn't buy) and Skylake will be launched in August. Just sayin.

Re: First build after 7 years

That EVGA card uses the stock cooler, and that's not a good thing here. This Gigabyte card cost 20 CAD more and stops the fans when in idle.

Re: First build after 7 years

Why do you choose that Corsair? 210CAD for 240 GB????

You know that you can get a 500 GB drive for that money, right? Pick a Samsung or a Crucial.

Re: MINI-ITX Kaveri system build

About your CPU choice, do you prefer AMD or do you want that extra GPU performance? If it's the former then I won't say anything about that. Otherwise, Intel currently has the best integrated graphics but they cost a lot compared to the 7850K. If you're prepared to wait for Intels upcoming Skylake p...

Re: RIP Grooveshark - where to go now?

Spotify Free is free, obviously, although it has its limitations. Spotify Premium is free for the first two months, you can always switch to the Free version before that. There's also Spotify Unlimited, it's hidden on their site, but I could downgrade to it last summer, €5/month. Dunno if it still w...

Single fan. I can't fit a long card (Node 304 + full size PSU) I have a dual fan Zotac 660 Ti with two fans, it's not longer then the Mini-Itx motherboard. Replace the cooler instead of changing the whole card. Here is one cooler: http://www.arctic.ac/eu_en/accelero-mono-plus.html It's usually chea...

I wonder what their new Lighting Cube is. It will be unveiled at Computex.
Sounds like gimmick features that only raises the cost for no good.

I've been following that thread for a long time. According to many users, but not all, the fan clicks at lower speeds, and it starts /stops quite often as well.

Did you even look at the numbers?

That review is 3.5 years old, and they think 25 dBA is okay. Compare that to 17 dBA on the GTX 980 system.

Re: Help with 1080p gaming PC shopping list

Good link, yes, I use geizhals too, though often it brings up resellers that just sound a bit iffy, in the style of "megasavingsxxx.de" or so. I follow the customer reviews at geizhals, of course. :) The closer to 1 the better. As for it being overkill.. isn't overkill required when trying to make ...

Re: Vintage quiet - in search of a good socket 7 solution

You can't use a Socket A or Socket 478 heatsink as they do not have a large enough flat area. These chips had a physically enormous contact patch of 50mm x 50mm. You're right. Although I wonder if the whole lid of the MMX really have to be covered anyway, the chip is much smaller. I'm not sure that...

Re: Vintage quiet - in search of a good socket 7 solution

First of all, I think socket 7 uses the same mounting mechanism (you have to double check) as AMD's Socket 462, or socket A (the ones that doesn't utilize mounting holes). Socket 462 was used for a long time, at least until 2004, so it may be easier to find parts from such systems. Dunno if that's o...

Go with Intel graphics first, then buy a card later if needed. OOB = Out Of Box, means that it worked without changing anything, just like installing on an Apple computer. http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.9.0#INTEL_2 The i7 4770 has a GPU, is cheaper than the Xeon you picked, and r...

Re: 140 mm long PSU, non-modular, quiet?

If you use a german-to-swedish translation, use it just as a double check of a german-to-english one, because usually Google Translator is worst when any language is different from english. It was a comment on your german - english translation link, just to point out what they meant with plain bear...

Re: 140 mm long PSU, non-modular, quiet?

Thanks, I realize I've seen that review. I don't like the conclusion, it gets an average score for the fan noise, and the fan rattles. Gleitlager in german, which is glidlager in swedish, gets translated to plain bearing in english by google, instead of sleeve bearing. Now I see that there's a diffe...
