Most recent Apple computers, mainly notebooks, iMacs and the Mac Mini, are already pretty much silent. My unibody Macbook Pro is less than an inch thick (with lid closed) and the only time I hear the fans is when both cores are working at 75%+ load for a continued time. My former Macbook (white mode...

MCE is built on top of XP Pro with some of the more advanced networking features disabled (VPN for one). Basically, MCE is XP Pro with additional software. Also, I have a MacMini G4 1st gen and I can attest to its quietness. If you have a really really quiet room, then you can hear it but its noise ...

Hello! First off, nice purchase, Apple laptops are really nice. For your questions : Hard disk : Any current models should be able to provide 3.7MB/second sustained transfer speed. Most do around 40MB/second, so 3.7MB/sec is really no daunting task. As for silence, I am sure most here will agree wit...

It runs really well in my P180 with only one Nexus 120mm exhaust and passively cooled NB (A8N-SLI Premium) and passively cooled CPU (A64 3000+ with XP120, no fan). Good quality, good warranty, reliable (Made by Asus) and factory...

I have the BenQ X120 and it is really quiet compared to my Logitech Elite and the laptop-like keys really help in typing faster.

I love it and it is dirt cheap (CAD $15 at Futureshop / BestBuy on sale).

Stylish, no-nonsense and really slim.
NO drivers needed, no hassle.

@Centaur: My 6600 runs quite cool. I didnt' figure out how to have it report temps yet (didn't have time) but the heatsink only gets warm, not hot. It comes factory-passively cooled and I don't use the VGA duct yet, as my 80mm L1A Panaflo only fits "inside" the duct and is way too noisy in there. I'...

A Nexus Real Silent 120mm might do the trick.
NoiseBlocker fans are also really silent, as are SilenX fans (not sure about the latter, just of the top of my memory).

Go with the Nexus 120mm if you want silence and a consistency between samples.

I don't know if you are familiar with the Athlon 64's "Cool n' Quiet" feature... Basically, it downgrades the CPU speed when idle as to reduce power consumption and heat dissipation. Example : a 3000+ A64 would go down to 800mhz when CPU usage is low so heat dissipation is lower. Performance is simi...

Hi!

I have a similar drive (Lite-On 52-32-52 CD-RW) so I know what you're hearing...

If you use NERO (5 or 6), you can use the included NERO Drive Speed to reduce the read speed of your drive.

Also, when burning, just use a slower speed.

Hope that helps!

It can take as much as 18w per channel and there are 3 channels. You can (even if Vantec warns against it) connect more than one fan per channel (with pass-thorough connectors). No ideai of the PWM frequency. You can't forward RPM to the mobo though. (Edit: oops... didnt know) I can confirm that it ...
