Cost Of Living Now Outweighs Benefits WASHINGTON, DC—A report released Monday by the Federal Consumer Quality-Of-Life Control Board indicates that the cost of living now outstrips life's benefits for many Americans. "This is sobering news," said study director Jack Farness. "For the first time, w...

The reality is that in war and armed conflict, people die and not just soldiers and combatants. If anything, modern warfare techniques have resulted in very large reductions in civilian casualties, but if you look at your history, it is the United States, and us along who pioneered the use of precis...

Re: Collateral Murder

We all know that "Collateral Damage" happens in any armed conflict. But this is irrefutable proof that "collateral Murder" also happens, and likely happens a lot more than I thought. Now everytime I hear of some "citizen casualties", or "Collateral Damage" I will think that it might just be "Murder...

Do any of you actually live in Texas? Or even the US? Texas is a very right leaning state. Yet education is largely dominated by hard left leaning academics. We have a right to determine what will be taught to our children and how it will be taught. If you don't like it, there are 49 other states th...

I have to agree with everyone else who recommends an ssd unless you are using another computer for web browsing and productivity. Even so, it can considerably shorten booting/loading times. I would also consider the hd5850. Slightly less heat and noise compared to the 5870 and should run recent gam...

Even the deepest of the huge tower cases top out at about 24-25" of depth. That is enough to install the largest video cards and the largest HSFs. HTPC systems are usually designed to fit in a cabinet or rack so if one was 30+ inches deep, it would be hard to find a place for it in most homes. I am ...

I have had a Cosmos S for over a year and as someone who has built his own PC for some 15 years in some 15 cases, it is my favorite high performance case, especially given the potential to make it nearly silent. This is not a good case for the people who demand absolute silence, but if you want good...

Last night I was playing around and I may have slightly overstated how quiet it is. It is very slightly more audible than the CRT. However, turning off the CRT does noticably reduce the noise in the room. Some of this may just be the frequencies in play as the human ear is more sensitive to some ran...

An update on my system so far. First, on temps: Speedfan was showing my CPU temps as idling at 48-49C and often going to 55-59C under load. This kind of freaked me out as I am not used to the Core2 CPUs. As it turns out, Speedfan overstated the temps by 10C so my temps were just fine. I put the red ...

I added a 120mm fan to the bottom of the case as an interim measure to help cooling. I also flipped over the top fan to make it an intake instead of an exhaust and I am about to switch it back. Case temps are generally around 40C but I think that is because the passive HD4850 is heating up the whole...

I have been upgrading and going through every possible iteration to build a quiet (not silent) gaming system. I think the thermal protection shuts off the PC when it gets too high.

That said, if the HSF falls off, I doubt you have even 1 second before the chip is destroyed - no matter how low the voltage.
