Thanks for all those tips. So basically, if i take good care of the computer, it does not really matter if i go the AMD or the Intel path. I tought that Intel was high-end, while AMD being the cheaper company.

Thanks again.

In the long term, reliability...

Hi everyone, I will be building a fairly good machine in the near future, one with plenty of disk space and quite a lot of processing power for gaming and video editing. Now, since I do not change computer every year -- I usually keep mine 5 to 6 years -- I would like to know what would your suggest...

Thanks for all the info guys. I will start looking for used cards on eBay or something because I do not want to spend 200$ for a card with a soon to be dead bus. If I can find something for about 90$ to 100$ that will boost my current config., this will be perfect. Your advices were really appreciat...

So, if you are playing games, give us more info about the games you play, your computer, and your monitor resolution. If you don't play games, any AGP card will do. I have an Asus A9250 Gamer Edition at the moment, and this card is not a gamer card despite what its title makes us believe in. I play...

Best AGP non Direct X card you can get...

Hi every one, I plan on upgrading my computer (based on a P4P800 Asus motherboard) by changing my graphic card, which is very average. Now, I run XP, do not plan on downgrading to Vista, but I might eventually load one of the Linux distros around in a near future. Since I will not use any DirectX 10...

Thanks Munch for your suggestions. I can pretty much get any part I want from my distributor, or the Internet of course. I am thinking about building a PC similar to what you suggest or similar to Sharkyextreme High-End gaming system . For what I understand, I have to take a close look that the qual...

Thank you for your long and generous answers to my question. To sum up, yes you can build a gaming computer, very powerful, without being the latest and best thing around, that can also be quite acceptable in terms of noise. Asus offers some interesting passive cooling systems for their graphic card...

A silent high-end gaming computer: possible?

Hi everyone, I am seriously thinking about buying a high-end PC this year. Photoshop to the max, GuildWars, video editing, Crytek... This usage demands real power, and the best graphic cards. I was thinking about "Dual 640MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8800 GTS" on an Alienware Aurora 7500 , but just lookin...

Silent AGP graphic card around 140$

Hi everyone, I want to upgrade my computer for a better graphic card, and transfer my actual card into my second computer, in order to be able to install Ubuntu (which does not work with Kyro chip BTW). I have a silent card at the moment, a Saphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis 128MB DDR Memory (no fan at al...

Thanks for all your answers. I will see what I can do. The 5 V option might be good, but I fear that my fans won't even start at this voltage. Fanmates are a good options.

2 Panaflo FBA08A12L in the back of my Antec Case

Hi everyone, I have read many articles, but I have not found my answers: I am about to put together all the computer parts I ordered (some from FrontierPC: good service, fast shipping). Now, I have 2 Panaflo FBA08A12L (made in China BTW) that I intend to place at the back of my Antec case, with an A...

Hi everyone, Building a quiet PC has been in my mind for many months now. Quiet but at the same time, powerful, since I work with Photoshop most of the time, with many other apps open at the same time. I have a pretty good computer right now: Antec case with lots of tweaking inside ( Zalman fan , Po...
