Ive been using the NF7-s version 2.0. In my experiences the board has been rock solid. I used it with the axp 1700+ JIUHB in a heavily overclocked state as my main rig for about 8 months and then used it at stock speeds for quiet for another 4 months. Then using the same CPU I moved it into the htpc...

Your setup seems similar to the setup I used in my article here http://www.silentpcreview.com/article215-page1.html . I used the nf7-s motherboard with an amd xp 1700+. The nf7-s does have the optical out and fantastic undervolting options. In my case I dropped the voltage by .3v and clock speed 200...

This computer is an HTPC as far as it is connected to my television and my home theatre setup. It can play divx movies and play mp3's through my stereo. I've considered the addition of a capture card, but moved away from that idea as I don't really watch a ton of tv anyway and wouldn't care to save ...

I think something we have to remember as well when considering things like this is that SPCR, while we know it so well and we love it, is still a small (and incredibly specialized) community relative to what's out there; to the masses upon masses of regular computer users. It was mentioned in the "I...

Currently, the lab is in chaos, has been for a few days. I've doing morec carpentry than writing or testing right now, expanding into what used to be the spare guest bedroom -- a 12x11' space. Hoping this will reduce clutter & confusion & keep stiff from migrating to places where Betty can trip ove...

See, I know Paxmate has a bad rap around here, but we need to remember that all this stuff is relative. Of course it's not as good as other acoustic dampening materials out there, but it still has it's uses. I have paxmate throughout my computer, and it does it's job well as far as I can tell. I've ...

If you are interested in the path I took with my 3700 AMB to bring the comp to within 24dba from 1m check it out here: http://www.modthebox.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=mtblogs;action=display;num=1083205859 I actually had my comp measured at the SPCR lab at 24dba. The log I linked has images of th...

Mike, I was thinking of doing the same thing to my asus 9180 ti4200, with the same zalman sink and the same fan. However, the heatsink only covers about 90% of my gpu. I didn't do it for fear that that bit of uncovered gpu would wreck something. Good news though, the stock heatsink with the fan gone...

I disagree to the negativity towards the Zalman ALCU 6000. I've been using one for about 6 months now and I love it. To clear up any misconceptions, it's not a totally passive cooler, there is a 92mm fan suspended above the fan via a bracket that comes with the product. The fan is connected to a sma...

I've experienced the same thing with my fans. I have a Noise Isolator PWM fan controller, and have 2 vantec stealth 120mm hooked up to the first channel, 2 panaflo low 80mm hooked up to the second channel and I have my Zalman 92mm hooked up to the third channel. I've found that even the awesome Pana...
