Since I too had a "no-go" GS with two mainboards I'll chime in -
I got a PNY & an EVGA to work with both of my problem mainboards. Of note the PNY fan was whiny.......EVGA? (they make a passive IIRC)

Tried two cards now & the same issue..........started thinking (dangerous :D ). I wonder if the 7600GS series pull too much power for the PCI on newer boards (those designed w/ powered PCI cards in mind). Sort of like the AGP issue at one time, when some cards needed 1.5v just to start & some slots ...

Huh? It can't be the power supply.......can it?
It's been a long time since I've posted, but I'm stumped on this one - I'm having an issue with a new(ish) system. I've done a fair amount of reading & everything points to it not being a power supply issue but........ Basic system A64 1.8ghz Newcastle core S754 (yep, an "oldy") 1gb DDR 400 RAM 1 PC...

I've read on silent pc that the so advertised "thermal conduction" of the alluminium cases are a joke....anybody have experiences with that I'd say so, my case doesn't seem any cooler than steel. Ambient has remained the same (it's in the same room) & the internal temps have be almost exactly the s...

Question(s) about the Compucase 6A19....
I gather from the searches I've done that the filter for the front fan is accessible w/o tipping the case BUT.... Does the front piece swing up/down like the D8000? If it does pop off can it be modded w/ mesh like the D8000? I'm aware I could get the D8000 from Jim (I own the 1st "pop-top" Genie eve...

"25dB with fans on normal"? I hope "normal" ≠ 12 volts because that'll be pushing it, even for L1A Panaflos Tt gets even worse than that, they claim 21dba for the ones in my case. This is for both the 9cm (1800rpm) & the 8cm (2050rpm) :D They are fairly quiet, but I'm not about to buy the 21dba cla...

Is the AMB better than the BQE? I wouldn't say better, they're alomst the same case. The main differences are that the BQE has the lower drive rack turned 90* (tword the side of the case) & the color. :D The names actually stand for: BQE = Black Quiet Edition AMB = Antec Metallic Bronze You can get...

Simple answer, no - unless requirements dictated the purchase. If the requirements were: 1. Small sized case OR 2. Transportable AND 3. Had to be aluminum Maybe, but I still think I'd go with a LanBoy (or super) - less money. If weight wasn't a criteria I'd most likely go with a steel case from Comp...

I have the LanFire & yes the fans are quiet - when run below full blast. They claim 21dba for all 4 fans - I'm not sure, but they are quiet at any speed less than full (even @ full they aren't what you'd call noisy - they don't whine @ all). I'm pretty picky & I only have a few complaints (aside fro...

If you're referring to the "Black Skull" series you'll have a hard time making it quiet w/ all that open mesh on the side. I don't think Thermaltake is "bad", they're just very pricey for what you get. I have the Lanfire case & it's a good small case but even @ the price I paid it was too expensive....

I think the corrosive issue is as overblown as the leak issue. Yes, anti-corrosives ARE required, but this should enable the system to function just fine for extended periods of time. Anyone drive a car? How often do you really change the cooling fluid? I'm not ware of a care made that has a single ...

Black Ice makes two rads for 80mm fans. One is a single & the other is a double. Depending on space you may be able to use either one (the double would be better obviously). You can see them here - http://www.dangerden.com/mall/Radiators/hwlabs.asp You might also consider mounting the radiator in th...

My advice is....... Just keep searching here - lol - there's more information than you can assimilate :D I agree w/ all the others, Panaflo L1A's (whatever the size) should be more than enough to keep the system cool. Using the rubber/silicone to isolate the fans is an excellent idea, this should el...

Thanks! It's getting close to being quiet (PICs)
Just some background - I've been on the "cool & quiet" trail for quite some time. My 1st attempt was a Chenbro Genie from coolcases (so long ago I had the 1st "pop-top" mod Jim ever did - lol). It was a great case, two 120's & a 92mm. If you ran the fans @ 7v it was very quiet - unfortunately it wei...

Do the bigger pumps generate more of a hum noise too, or just more vibrations? As a rule, yes. I have a couple of large pumps running in aquariums (900+ gph). They make noise & vibrate but they're hard to hear over the sound of the moving water - lol. I have a maxi-jet running in the comp & it's pr...

they mix Al and Cu in their block I'm not sure if I'd worry about that issue. Most WC'ers use some form of anti-corrsoive which should eliminate the problem. I mean, most cars have multi-metal cooling (i.e. Al water pumps & copper heater cores). I use Zerex "water pump lubricant" - it' purely an an...

Funny incident w/ a SS Tornado.....
I was installing my WC system yesterday & was too lazy to remove the PS (only had to drill a couple of holes). I taped up the fan & vent holes "just in case". I reinstalled eveything & all was well - low temps & very quiet. I tried to play a couple of games & the system crashed. I couln't figure out...

No nifty fan connectors. Given the way your load is spread out either one might do the trick - (I'll have to exclude the CPUs as I don't remember the draw of a P3) 12V: 2xOptical = 2 - 2.2a 2xWD HDD = 4a (using the guide below, my Maxtor 200/8mb only draw .6) Zip Drive = .6a TOTAL = 6.8 (81.6w) 5v L...
