Since I too had a "no-go" GS with two mainboards I'll chime in -

I got a PNY & an EVGA to work with both of my problem mainboards. Of note the PNY fan was whiny.......EVGA? (they make a passive IIRC)

A few experiences with the thermal pad, the stock AMD version isn't bad from a removal standpoint.

#1 - heat up CPU
#2 - unlock clip & twist slightly
#3 - clean up with rubbing alcohol

Done. If you're going to replace the HS/Fan anyway why not just use the pad until you get the replacement?

Tried two cards now & the same issue..........started thinking (dangerous :D ). I wonder if the 7600GS series pull too much power for the PCI on newer boards (those designed w/ powered PCI cards in mind). Sort of like the AGP issue at one time, when some cards needed 1.5v just to start & some slots ...

Hmmmm................that sounds just like my experience. The card I have is made by BFG (sold under the 3D Fuzion label). It's cheap, but should work. Funny part is that the two MB I tested with are different brands - sounds like it's not a MB BIOS issue (one is AMI & the other is Phoenix)??

Huh? It can't be the power supply.......can it?

It's been a long time since I've posted, but I'm stumped on this one - I'm having an issue with a new(ish) system. I've done a fair amount of reading & everything points to it not being a power supply issue but........ Basic system A64 1.8ghz Newcastle core S754 (yep, an "oldy") 1gb DDR 400 RAM 1 PC...

I've read on silent pc that the so advertised "thermal conduction" of the alluminium cases are a joke....anybody have experiences with that I'd say so, my case doesn't seem any cooler than steel. Question(s) about the Compucase 6A19....

I gather from the searches I've done that the filter for the front fan is accessible w/o tipping the case BUT.... Does the front piece swing up/down like the D8000? If it does pop off can it be modded w/ mesh like the D8000? I'm aware I could get the D8000 from Jim (I own the 1st "pop-top" Genie eve...

"25dB with fans on normal"? I hope "normal" ≠ 12 volts because that'll be pushing it, even for L1A Panaflos Tt gets even worse than that, they claim 21dba for the ones in my case. This is for both the 9cm (1800rpm) & the 8cm (2050rpm) :D They are fairly quiet, but I'm not about to buy the 21dba cla...

Simple answer, no - unless requirements dictated the purchase. If the requirements were: 1. Small sized case OR 2. Transportable AND 3. Had to be aluminum Maybe, but I still think I'd go with a LanBoy (or super) - less money. If weight wasn't a criteria I'd most likely go with a steel case from Comp...

I have the LanFire & yes the fans are quiet - when run below full blast. They claim 21dba for all 4 fans - I'm not sure, but they are quiet at any speed less than full (even @ full they aren't what you'd call noisy - they don't whine @ all). I'm pretty picky & I only have a few complaints (aside fro...

If you're referring to the "Black Skull" series you'll have a hard time making it quiet w/ all that open mesh on the side. I don't think Thermaltake is "bad", they're just very pricey for what you get. I have the Lanfire case & it's a good small case but even @ the price I paid it was too expensive....

I think the corrosive issue is as overblown as the leak issue. Yes, anti-corrosives ARE required, but this should enable the system to function just fine for extended periods of time. I'd probably opt for the 92mm over the tornado - those things are LOUD! A panaflo 92L1A on a controller would work well. Even @ full tilt it'd probably be quieter than the tornado @ 7v. At 7v the panaflo will still move a repectable amount of air.

Black Ice makes two rads for 80mm fans. One is a single & the other is a double. Depending on space you may be able to use either one (the double would be better obviously). Thanks! It's getting close to being quiet (PICs)

Just some background - I've been on the "cool & quiet" trail for quite some time. My 1st attempt was a Chenbro Genie from coolcases (so long ago I had the 1st "pop-top" mod Jim ever did - lol). It was a great case, two 120's & a 92mm. If you ran the fans @ 7v it was very quiet - unfortunately it wei...

The SeaSonic is a good power supply, no problems from a power delivery point of view. If you've done a search here then you're probably aware that the "Tornado" can be hit or miss when it comes to noise production. I have the 350w version & it's dead quiet, I guess I got a "hit".
