The TIM that comes pre-applied (in three stripes) on the stock HSF can be used only once. I think the 55.6 number may be a typo. Note it is not a pad; it is three blobs of TIM that melt and spread after installation, just like most aftermarket greases. Ahhh, so it is not a pad. That is where I was ...

Can anybody explain to me why the Intel Stock Thermal Pad temperature goes down from 59.9 degC to 55.6 degC when the application method is switched from "spread" to "dollop"? It is a thermal pad. Presumably, it just sits on the bottom of the heatsink. You don't spread it, nor do you dollop it. So wh...

What type of Pentium III 500 is it? It is a Slot 1 CPU, or is it a Socket 370? Does it use a Coppermine core? If it is a Socket 370, it will use a Coppermine core for sure. That will have a thermal design power of 13.2 W, which is astonishingly low by today's standards (see http://processorfinder.in...

I am not sure I could run that thing at full power without tripping the circuit breaker in my apartment. As I recall, my apartment's 120V circuits only go up to 10 or 15 amps.

Too bad it does not come with an optional 208V/240V input. I could unplug my oven and use this in its place!

Adrian, if it makes you feel any better, I have an Abit BM6 motherboard running just fine without the -5V rail... floppy and all. This motherboard is also 8 years old. Since I get the "no system fan" warning, I'm a bit worried that the BIOS may be confused. Maybe the BIOS expects a certain RPM from Dell fans? As a matter of fact, "Adjust minimum speed of threshold for system fan detection," was one of the issues addresses in BIOS revision A08. 8) The current BIOS...

No, -5V is not needed. For the most part, -5V has not been used since the days of ISA slots... very old ISA slots, at that. If it makes you feel any better, I used to have an Athlon XP 3000+ with an Epox 8RDA+ motherboard (another nForce2 motherboard from around that time). The lack of a -5V rail ma...

Hmmm, as I understand it, Skazka is talking about hot-unplugging the drives by going to the Windows system tray (down by the clock) and using the "Safely Stop/Remove a Device" icon. Keep playing with it some. The catch is usually in the form of a hook, with the base of the hook toward the end of the connector. If you concentrate on the part of the slot away from the end, you can usually squeeze the hook together enough so that the wire will slide out. As you can tell, this is p...

If you are patient, you can reverse the wires on the female connection. Typically, the wires are not soldered in, but merely use a "catch" to hold them in place. If you look at the side (not the end) of the female connector, you can usually see some slots that run parallel to the wires. If you use a...

The power on problem could be because of some weird BIOS Power Management bug. What about something like fitting an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 1 (Rev. 2) to your Ti4400? That way, you would remove much of the heat directly, as opposed to having it heat up your case.
