Re: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Processor

Text on the retail version is "intel core i7-4770k, sr147", not "intel confidential, qeh6 es". Selected review sample which is unfortunately completely useless for making reviews, but it is good as a desktop processor.

Re: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Processor

We didn't observe any heat issues with our sample chip. On our CPU test rig running Prime95, the temperature stabilized at 67C (according to CoreTemp), ambient was 21C, Scythe Kabuto @ 800rpm. Power draw from wall: 149W AC. Is this an engineering sample sent by Intel? Also in the first picture of t...

Re: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Processor

so far the only discussion I've seen of thermal performance at stock speeds is on Legit Reviews, which found that the i7-4770K maxed out at a whopping 82 degrees C when using the stock cooler. According to this review at Muropaketti , stock cooler and default clock 4770k reaches 100C in a few minut...

Re: Fractal Design Node Series HTPC Enclosures

Yesterday I finally got the Node 605 case, it took 2 weeks to deliver. It looks very good on Yamaha floorstand, and fits perfectly. There is 170mm space under the dark glass plate (with 2cm thick steel frames) and case depth with cables installed is also perfect. Also ordered Noctua SE14 low profile...

Re: Fractal Design Node Series HTPC Enclosures

Actually the Grandia GD04, GD05, and GD06 have depth of 323mm, 325mm, and 340mm respectively! Node 605 can house existing hardware, like 180mm modular PSU, full ATX mb, 260mm graphics card + power connectors and 2 HDDs, even it is so small, only 349mm. Those smaller grandias and lian li cases can't...

The Node 304 looks interesting but I'm not sure what the point is of the Node 605. How many TV stands or entertainment centers can accommodate a full height ATX case? Node 605 looks good and it fits perfectly to my Yamaha YTS-F500 tv stand. Depth only 349 mm. Most htpc cases suitable for gaming, li...

Re: Silverstone SST-HE02 : a new passive CPU cooling contend

This looks like a falsely marketed forced convection heatsink.

Natural convection heatsink for 95W TDP would weight 4 Kg and it would be 450mm wide and fins placed 8 mm apart.

Re: HD 7850 reviews

Witcher 2 at ultra settings (ubersampling on) is a rendering farm application. It renders every frame a few times to achieve much better image quality than any regular AA method. Crysis 2 isn't nearly as gpu-heating even without v-sync. W2 power usage is somewhere between peak and maximum.

Re: HD 7850 reviews

7850 maximum power consumption is 101W and 7870 144W, this is felt when playing very GPU heating games (e.g. witcher 2 - other games have lower temps). Since I have 2 cats and can't remove any dust filters or fan grills, I would need new case and larger fans. Larger fan allow much more air to pass s...

Re: Finally a Super Quiet High-end Video Card?

The Sapphire 7850 works better than I anticipated for a non-passive card. At idle it only makes slightly more noise than the other fans, so it's still almost inaudible, and during games it generates a fairly pleasant hum. 7850 noise can be further improved by better arrangement of case fans. I trie...

Re: Finally a Super Quiet High-end Video Card?

In 2d mode and very light 3d games 7850 has default clock 300mhz and 0,8V. It seems that hardware supports undervolting, but in gpu tools 2.0.8 the lowest possible voltage is the default 1,036, even if advanged clocking range is enabled. Maybe version 2.0.6 supports undervolting, it has larger volta...

Re: Finally a Super Quiet High-end Video Card?

Does Sapphire or XFX have any fan speed controlling software? What I read Sapphire 7850 is quiet at idle (fan speed 20%) but noisier at load (fan speed 55%). Last week I got Asus DCU2 7850 and it has gpu tweak software for controlling fan speed. I set it to 28%, which is the highest practically non-...

Usually I first clean the core and heatsink with isopropyl alcohol and ear cleaner stick, then put a small drop of paste to core, and wipe it clean with a finger in a plastic bag, so that the paste goes to the microscopic valleys of the surface. I have a Fortron 300W (silenced/cooled with 2 alu profiles), since it was the cheapest PSU in the nearest store, and also I needed that 12 cm fan to cool some plantations in the next room. It was a very bad purchase. Fortron300W reproduces all processor sounds via badly glued coils, and also that 12...
