Thanks for the compliments ;). Pics are taken with my brand new Powershot A80, and I must say I love the quality! Yeah, I know the temp seems a bit high, but since temp measurement on motherboards differs, I'm not worried. My system is stable as it is, even after several hours of intensive gaming. A...

Another Sonata (minor) modding project
My first minor modding is finally a fact . From the outside there's almost no difference, because it's mainly acoustic and airflow modding. First some pictures of how my Sonata looked before (you are allowed to laugh :D ): http://users.pandora.be/verheyen1/Jan/IMG_0126.JPG http://users.pandora.be/ve...

I'm using 2 Raptors for about 3-4 months now, and I must say that my connectors and cables are of a very high quality. I'm using the cables that came with my motherboard (Asus A7N8X Deluxe). The connectors are firmly seated, the cables are quite easy to bend. But I've heard of several others who als...

I don't agree with some of you if you say that 512MB of RAM is a joke. I've got 512megs myself and I can play the latest games without any problem, WITH eyecandy. Imo the only valid reason to have more RAM is when you're a heavy photoshop/3dsMAX/... user, or when you want to play a game while burnin...

AMD has implemented this in their 64-bit line, Cool 'n Quiet. And afaik it works like a charm, reducing the clockspeed and power consumption depending on the task the cpu is performing. I don't know either why it took so long though. Intel is a victim of its own marketing-talk. They've spent the las...

I've been using XP for a couple of years, and I like it. It does have a lot of eyecandy when you've just installed it, but with some minor tweaks you can turn them off and have the same layout as 2k. And if you go a bit further and if you're willing to spend some time on it you can speed it up even ...

obviously you don't want the grill there - but you definitely want a gap between the fan and the rad to eliminate the dead spot all so common with axial fans. when using a fan on a radiator, a ~3cm gap seems to be optimal based on the results from watercooling peoples such as cathar. yeah, thanks f...

I agree with Axhind that this is defenatly a grounding problem. I am fairly certain that you don't have your computer grounded. Since you probably don't have any grounded wall plugs in the room you have your computer in your easiest way to reach ground is a heater. Find some bare metal on the heate...

putting a hd upside down is indeed a safe thing to do. you can even place it vertically, like some OEM builders do/did (Compaq for instance). The only thing to avoid is placing it in an angle, because that way gravity will work unevenly on the platters, heads and motor, causing it to degrade and eve...

I've got my cpu, nb and vga watercooled with the Asetek Waterchill-set, and it's NOT complete silent at all. Stay away from the all copper, no need, too much weight, not good. I agree, and what's more, copper 'picks up' heat faster than alu, but it needs more airflow to get rid of it. Alu needs very little airflow to dissipate its heat into the air, so if you're using a low rpm-fan (like with this heatsin...

Very nice work Douglas! I've got a Sonata too, and partially thanks to you, I've already ordered the Deluxe pack  . If I receive that, I'll have about everything to 'mod' my case. I'll use a lot of other tricks I found on this forum too, so I'll try to make a nice article with pics to describe...

Axhind, I also have a Sonata, and usless you are doing something unusual, the hard drive screws do not touch the chasis. As noted by others, both the power and data cables for the drive have ground wires. I did have a problem with a Pentium 90 years ago in that the floppy drive would not work prope...

Since companies like Dell grommet mount their hard drives, I think you can be assured that it is safe. Dell actually has degreed engineers on their staff. disadvantage of hd-suspension?
Hey all, I spent some time browsing the forum, and read a lot of topics about silencing comps, including the ones where one gets advice about suspending his hd's. I have one remark concerning this method, but i'm not 100% sure if my thoughts on this matter are correct. What about static electricity ...
