Keep in mind the 10*C average drop mainly to overclockers who's processors are probably pumping out 2x the heat than at stock settings. At stock, where the IHS poses less resistance to heat transfer, you'll probably only see a few degrees difference. I had an old 2800+ Newcastle I pulled the IHS of...

Removing the processor heatspreader for lower temps
I was suprised that there's little written here about removing the heatspreader of a processor. I've read on several OC forums that people are doing it and i've even seen a movie of it. It seems pretty simple, all you need is a sharp knife and a screwdriver. So why not do it for extreme cooling? On ...

One thing that sounds suspect to me about mounting a 12 CM fan PSU upside down, is that the fan has to fight the rising heat. Correct, upside down it will never be as efficient as when its mounted the way it's supposed to be. It'd be interested to see it mounted normally, with the bottom of the cas...

Sorry to drag up an old post, but thought id add to it so my 'mod' is in the same place. I too have a 3700BQE and have kept the 350w psu that comes with it. My mods were to cut off the grill from the case's 120mm fan like shown above, i also did the same with the grill at the front of the case. re ...

Too bad this thread doesn't lead to more discussion. I wish i could change the title to the Asrock 939 motherboard. I think this board is extremely interesting (performs about as good as nF4, has both AGP+PCI, is cheap etc!). The chip is also mentioned as being quite kool on this forum. It overclock...

I can answer a few of those, AMD's cool'n'quiet doesn't control fan speed, you'll have to use your BIOS settings, motherboad monitor (MBM) or SpeedFan software for that. They're free, just google them. A speedfan would be a more manual control, but I think software that controls your fan speed as a...

General advise on config for Antec SLK3000B
Hi there. I'm in the mids of deciding what to buy for a new quiet system i'm building. Just like last time i build one, i spend a few good weeks reading, especially on here of course. Awesome source of info! :) This new system will basically be an ordinary desktop computer for word processing and in...

Excellent thread! I'm planning on building a new pc with the 3000B as well and was wondering why you haven't made any use of CPU ventilation hole? A friend of mine made a simple pipe using cardbord in order to let his Zalman suck up fresh air from the outside and according to him it gets a few degre...

I've actually come to the same conclusion, after owning this case for a few months. The PSU make a lot of noise! (more than the Sonata i believe). I thought it was the rear fan making the noise. But after downregulating that one the noise was still clearly present! Actually the PSU makes so much noi...

How to place Fan Mate on rear fan of Antex 3700BQE
Hi everyone, I have just finished building my very first own system, and thanks to this site i've managed to make it a fairly quiet one too, with relatively simple means. The choice of installing a Zalman 7000 A-Aicu, the Samsung SP 1614c and the Antec 3700 BQE have not let me down! Now i'm trying t...

LiteOn are extremely noisy at almost any speeds in my experience. Some of the models even refuse to accept Nero Drivespeed commands. I'd recommend Lite-On as a last resort to anyone seeking silence. That's my experience on Lite-On (dvd-rom, cdrw and dvd+/-rw drives). I'd pick Samsung or LG - even T...

Devilsown, Have you run Maxtor's AMSet utility? It usually does a good job of reducing seek noise. As far as the temps go, how is it mounted? If you don't have metal to metal mounting (noise transfer) the temps will climb. That's why you see so many systems here with active cooling of the HDDs whic...

I own a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 40 GB with liquid bearing, and i must say it's pretty quiet! However, i am not considering it for my next pc (which has to be extremely quiet!), because you hear it seek. Besides that, temperature tools measure it to be 60 degrees!!! Has any of you had the pleasure of testing the 100 gb platter version (ST3200822A) yet?
I'd love to read a review on that.
Here's a brief one by Tom's hardware: http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage/20 ... index.html
