is the top vent/120mm fan spot blocked/fan located there? in my p180, I first had that area blocked, thinking noise would escape from it, when exactly the opposite happened (it was much louder blocked, with the noise coming from the back of the computer). I unblocked it, and it's fine, and also keep...

a very common issue, some creative ways to fix it have been attempted but as far as I know, depending on how cold it gets it still 'warps'.

so are the Gigabyte Silentpipe II cards OK now? I remember reading some threads a few months back about how they were unstable and people were getting freezes with them, etc. but it looks like they've changed the cooler since those posts?

budget cooling for 3000+ Venice Core

Hey guys, My friend's building a 'low' level gaming pc, and we are doing as much as we can to get the noise down as well. For cooling for his A64 3000+ Venice core, I'm having a tough time deciding between the Freezer A64 (29 bucks) versus the XP-120 (48 bucks). I have the XP-120 myself and know tha...

so you are saying that they are false advertising then?  yes I am. coolermaster is one of many companies (vantec is another example, with their 'stealth' fan at 18db) who say their products are 'quiet' and 'below the threshold of human hearing' etc. So who makes true silent fans? go with the NV silencer 5. any and all 'clicking' problems have been fixed in revision two, and other than that, at 5V it is not loud whatsoever.

You should buy the 120mm yate loon fans for cheap at wholesale sites, that's the bets way to go. Plus, newegg charges like 4 bucks shipping for each fan you buy, they dont combine shipping prices. So, don't bother buying fans from newegg, you'll lose money plus they dont have any quet fans there.

Not the best entrance, but WELCOME TO SPCR Phantron!! I'd go with the XP-120 and get whatever 120mm fan will suit your needs best (Nexus 120mm should work fine at 1000rpm's, even with overclocking). For a fan controller, I'm not sure, I just use the Zalman fan mates myself on two of my fans, and i plug the rest into my DFI Lan Party NF3 250gB which I c...

I've decided to go Mini-ITX, mainly because I'd like to stick with windows. I think I will go with the VIA 600mhz cpu/mobo combination (not sure of exact product name) mainly because it's passively cooled, and that's as much processor speed as they would need. I'd stick a 512 stick of something good...

Re: Definitely a C3...

Something like a VIA EPIA M10000 would be a good choice. Use the onboard video, sound, network, etc. All you would need is a case, a slimline DVD and a 2.5" HDD and they'd be set. Only one moving part (CPU fan), and some cases get away from that with heatpipes. I've found with parents, that the few...

Building Parents a New Computer; In Need of Recommendations

Hey guys, Recently my parents have been having some computer issues with the one I threw together for them a while ago, and I decided it would be best for me to just junk their old one (sell it in parts) and build them a new one from scratch. This computer would NOT need to be fast by any means, bec...

your temps are perfectly fine. you really dont need to worry about them until things become unstable, which is an indication that you have cooling issues. personally, with a socket A processor, i'm fine with any temps below 70C (as long as it's stable).

I just put my order in for the (silver?) P180 at www.centralcomputer.com

I'm currently writing them an email to confirm that it is indeed in stock, or else I will most likely end up canceling my order depending on the wait time. The P180 was $139.95 with about $27 for shipping.

It has been a while, but from what I've read by searching, are the 73gb WD raptors (WD740GD) safe to get for a silent pc? My main concern is with the whining, has it been fixed? The seeks are something I have learned to deal with, and if those get too great I can suspend them with ease. Any input wo...
