Having managed to fight my way to the last Antec 3700 in the country so many years ago, i've been happily & quietly computing away....till i had to replace with a more powerful system. Finall...

I'm very happy with my Nidec 250 (2504C). granted, it went in as the third drive in the system so my baseline is a bit higher than I'd like, but it's definitely MUCH quieter than the two Seagate 120s surrounding it and much cooler too. I couldn't compare it to my 160 (too much trouble) but subjectiv...

It's actually Crucio who's playing the bad guy this round. Klingon has been especially civil this round, never touching habs unless his were attacked first. Crucio has LOTS of ships and has sold a LOT of population to keep it going. Last I heard he had an income of above 1 million credits. So he's n...

Clarification:

Thor in my sig is the overclocked/undervolted A64.
Odin is my palomino, definitely not as quiet even running f@h at 75% CPU load. Any more and it starts crashing with the low airflow I'm giving it.

WARNING WARNING!! Palominos are notoriously hot & notoriously bad undervolters. You'd be lucky getting more than 0.5V decrease at all. AFAIK, it's a CPU chip problem, not a problem of the motherboard. Barton is a totally different case though. As for undervolting, full CPU speed & 100% load, check o...

Make sure your board is the KT800 PRO chipset, not the non-pro. That's the chipset on my Thor rig and i'm running an A64 3000+ (2 Ghz) at 2.4 GHz, folding at full load 24/7. I remember non-pro being slightly buggy.

I've been told by Seagate to never ever attempt firmware change on a harddrive. Apparently the versions are very closely coupled to minor changes in the hardware and the most innocious firmware update results in a dead harddrive - at least that's what they said.

I'm using a KM400 (similar mentality for Socket A) for pretty much the same purpose, no problems.

Beware though VIA isn't known for good & timely Linux drivers. Most drivers are for older core versions.

I know this would kind of defeat the purpose of a fanless P...

uGuru & MBM report the same temps in my KV8Pro board. I'm guessing the MBM uGuru support is a cover-all-versions support and therefore may be reading a different sensor than the correct one.

I also use MBM. The uGuru software is large, obtrusive and one serious CPU-cycle hog.

Jan, I just got that notebook. The fan IS obtrusive and pretty loud when it's on. And it's more like an on/off, no rpm regulation.
