While I haven't taken the plunge for a mac desktop unit yet, I am seriously tempted. Back in November I got a 15-inch PowerBook and I must say, working with OSX has been a joy. One button mouse-jokes aside, the OS has been really easy to get used to. It is very intuitive. Regarding software, there i...

I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious, but the noise might be emmanating from your sound card/wiring... but then I'd be surprised if you hadn't tried unplugging the audio jack while they were connected to the mains... </waste of bytes> on a side note, I run my sound through a sony amp into a set o...

I have that same case, and I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, but it is a pig to silence. After acoutipack deluxe, HD suspension, replacing the fans with nexus'es and buying a quiet everything, it's tolerable. The aluminium is extremely thin, so it will resonate very much. The rubber grommets didn...

Hmmm, that does seem likely for newfies. But I don't know if noofs can afford to drink a lot, there's lots of unemployment there and the canadian gov't gouges horribly with alcohol taxes. Nope, Polish. You know, it would hillarious if there was a dialect that sounded drunk, and there's no reason it shouldn't be possible. If the people who raised kids were often drunk eventually the language would become drunkenish. AH! I left out a possibility in my previos post. Our teachers were d...

That is pure genius. Since I modded my 9700Pro with a Zalman heatpipe HS, I have been wondering how to get some airflow past it without adding too many fans. I think you hit the nail right on the head. I would seriously consider ducting the rear fan to an upright HS (Scythe Ninja comes to mind). You...

Regarding the S12's cable lengths: I'll let someone else speak for the length of them, but (redundant comment) a small extension cable can be found at most retailers, online or not. If you want the easy way to silence, just get a Phantom PSU and a Reserator and a silent hdd. A samsung inside an acoustipacked case is pretty much silent. But with a setup like that theres nothing to tinker with, nothing to do. I just switched from a setup like that to a P180 and went air-cooled a...

Here we go... 1.Bought a computer (my criteria at the time was that it needed to be cheap and fast, 1.4 athlon and GF2 GTS 32 mb i believe...) 2. The Zalman is definately a good way to go, but I wouldn't let the fact that the XP120 is made of aluminium scare you off. With the right fan, it's a better choice (but also more expensive). I'd also get a mobo with passive NB cooling... but then that can be rectified later..

This was actually one of my chief concerns about the p180... it's supposed to be a quiet system, yet it has 3 case fans as standard, with room for 5... with a PSU, CPU and GPU, that's 7 fans total... I like the PSU/HD duct, but managing airflow in the main chamber is not as straightforward as it cou...

I'm all for tinkering, but it's so much easier and rewarding (not to mention cheaper) if you select the right components first time around If good looks are your thing, I'd just make sure that it has a front and rear 120mm fan hole... Aluminium cases are generally really hard to silence, but with so...

Regarding the fact that the stacker is aluminium: I have an aluminium case (thermaltake tsunami dream), and it resonated like hell. It has rubber grommets, but they didn't do the job. Is it true that the front fan, if installed, would be the most audible? Well... not having any experience with the case, if you have the front door closed, and the case positioned to your right, it shouldn't be a problem. Depending on what kind of surface you have behind the case, I'd think the bac...

hope you're not expecting that to be quiet... The case is all wrong for silent running (check the recommended section), and you should go for a seasonic S12 for the PSU. And then you'll need to chose a cpu heatsink, and, probably, a GPU heatsink (those fans are usually screamers). And don't forget t...
