I've been importing and reselling this stuff in South Africa, so I can give some impressions: 1. Results seem to vary. I've seen with my own eyes an 8 degree (yes, 8 degree) difference between this and (an admittedly not perfect) application of AS5 on a Penium D 805 oc'd running under a Koolance blo...

Standard 7800 GTX cooler is alu, not copper. EVGA ACS cooler uses a copper heatsink (with the same design as the standard cooler) and has the extra plate, so performance should be slightly better. 7800 gtx produces less heat than a 6800 ultra, so it will run fine with the VGA Silencer, assuming it f...

Well, I'm pretty much doing this at the moment. I own a small computer company, and while 95% of our clients are not too concerned with noise levels (we build machines that are relatively quiet compared with the average, but by no means silent as power + cost are more important than low noise levels...

Installed an Aquian over the weekend for a client - the stock fan on the Aquian is not quiet. Having said that, the system does seem to have a bit of overhead - running two 3.06ghz Xeon's on it and the temps where in the low 30's, and the pump noise is very, very minimal. So you can most likely inst...

Gateway also has a 17" system with a Pentium M and a X700.... however, if you are not going to move the machine around, do not go for a laptop - rather build a Pentium M based desktop system with a big slow cooler - much better option.

I'm using RMClock, and it plays nicely with the XP speed step controls. I leave windows on the default "Laptop/portable" setting, but it doesn't seem to matter because RMClock overrides it.

Good suggestion - also look at Centrino Hardware Control or RMClock - both of these apps will let you undervolt the CPU, which will decrease the heat.

Dude - I can really recommend changing the VGA cooling to a Zalman VF700. In theory it voids your warranty, but the truth is it's very easy to do, and as long as you replace the original cooler you won't have any problems if the card dies (obviously, if you kill the card, then it's your problem, but...

Thermalright V1 - "XP 90 for your gfx card"

Looks very impressive, and it got some good results. May be an ideal hybrid cooler - put a quiet Nexus on the one mounting and Tornado on the other - when you need silence you just run the Nexus, when you want to OC you run both at full tilt :D http://systemcooling.com/thermalright_v1-01.html Artag

Another vote for Mistumi - they are very quiet on read and seek, and relatively quiet on write. I dunno about that - looks like a very similar design to the VGA silencer, and my guess is that with the fan undervolted it will give similar performance.

I would go for the S939 - you get similar performance at a lower clock speed (due to the dual channel memory), and overall the architecture will have a longer lifespan. I think AGP gfx cards will be here for at least the next two product cycles, so I wouldn't worry about it.
