Re: Are 2 fans noisier than 1 blowing the same CFM?
I know this is an old topic but i thought i'd throw in my piece. The +3dB doubling only applies when you have coherent wavefronts. In the case of two subwoofers next to one another, it is possibly to achieve because the frequencies are low, and the wavefronts combine to produce a higher pressure wav...

Upgrading my case and DVD
Antec SLK3000B LG GSA4163 16x DVD R/RW/RAM These were the two parts i was reccomended. I'm happy with the case, but i was wondering about startup/dvd playback noise with the LG drive? I don't mind loudness when i am burning and i don't mind slowing it down with drivespeed when i am not, but does it...

I bought a load of rubbish old heatsinks from a fella a while ago - all roughly two inches square, heatsinks from voodoos and other systems he's broken up over the years. I cut/tore a couple of these in half and just used superglue dabbed on the corners and some thermal compound to attach them. Seem...

Looking for a new sound card.
I've been doing some work for a feller i know, he said he'd buy me a soundcard for it! Probably looking around the £50 range. I'm not looking for an extensive in/out patch bay, if anything i'll make one myself. All i want is high sound quality on the input and output, and low latency. I havent bough...

Designing a small MDF case - good move?
My mum recently pointed out an old machine that was cloggin up her office. I pulled it open to see a reasonably small motherboard, doggged with a tiny loud cpu fan and a bloody loud psu. I had already fitted a cheap seagate 5400rpm hard drive. It's a celeron 633, luckily with the same heatsink mount...

Re: Autosensing PSUs - Do They Work?
Do these new PSUs that increase or decrease their fan-speed depending on load really work, or is it just a gimmick? If they are worth it, whats a decent one available around the 300-Watt mark, for under about £40... $80ish...? Cheers Rich I've seen fortron supplies for sale at microdirect.co.uk, se...

12V relay..interesting greeef *rubs chin* do you have to give the PSU a common ground? what 250W supplies are ~95% efficient? i thought it was only DC/DC conversion which could reach that sort of efficiency Well there may be a slight delay in the second psu powering up, but i cant see any issues in...

Yet, noone has done it. The first link in the last post has also dissapeared. I'm guessing it's not a very good or useful idea. I am gonna try something small first, cooling just the northbridge probably. The thing is that these things are expensive. You also can't have too mayn of these, apparentl...

I've been asked to write an article on silencing
Almost everything i've learnt about silencing pcs has come from this website, and i wanted to put together a practical guide of steps people could take to make their pcs quieter. I wanted to know if it would be ok for me to describe systems (such as suspension) that i have learnt from here in my own...

makes sense yeah.. I didnt really want to hijack your thread, but i loved your under-the-cpu concept, was considering doing it and coupling it to a big ol heatsink i got given a while ago - Don't really want to cut the holes in my case unless it's going to make a real difference to temperatures thou...

is that helpful? Should be able to alter a few values to adjust the range, though a logarithmic curve would be difficult to manage.
