Is there a reason this is in the VGA forum?

Well, this is what the forum description says:

"Finally, a forum of its own (sort of): VGAs, motherboards, etc."

Somewhat confusing, I know....

Are you saying that NF7-S doesnt have fan speed control?...or that Infinity has it as well.

I have read that NF7-S can be controlled with SpeedFan.

DFI vs. Abit mobo

I'm thinking of getting Abit's NF7-S mobo but NCIX has DFI's Infinity Nforce2 on special right now. Two things I like about Abit's mobo is that "supposedly" its capable of fan speed control and includes serial-to-IDE adapter which I could use.

Is DFI's mobo missing both of these?

You have Hydro Wave bearing Fan then. Ball Bearing is an Everflow fan.

Did you get the one with Panaflo fan A1889, or Ball bearing fan A1889-01?

I just got mine from NCIX.com which is A1889-01. Their website says its A1889 with Hydro wave bearing fan though. They offered to take it back saying that they were not aware of 2 different versions.

Toshiba DVD-ROM's are quiet when playing movies because they are limited to 2x speed for DVD-Video. There is firmware available which unlocks the speed, which is good for ripping DVD's but bad for silent playback. You can also get firmware for Toshiba drives which will lower the max speed for normal...
