Is there a reason this is in the VGA forum?
Well, this is what the forum description says:

DFI vs. Abit mobo
I'm thinking of getting Abit's NF7-S mobo but NCIX has DFI's Infinity Nforce2 on special right now. Two things I like about Abit's mobo is that "supposedly" its capable of fan speed control and includes serial-to-IDE adapter which I could use.
Is DFI's mobo missing both of these?

Toshiba DVD-ROM's are quiet when playing movies because they are limited to 2x speed for DVD-Video. There is firmware available which unlocks the speed, which is good for ripping DVD's but bad for silent playback.
