I have a Noctua NH-U12 on my LGA1155 i5-2500K.
I'm now looking to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 3600 system.
Is the NM-AM4 adaptor what I need, and is the cooler up to the job?
Thanks

Solo II + Seasonic Fanless 460W 80+ Platinum
Just replaced my P180 and dead Phantom 500 with a Solo II and Seasonic Fanless 460W 80+ Platinum. Rest of spec: Sapphire HD 7750 Ultimate, i5 2500K, Noctua NH-U12P, G-Skill 8GB Ripjaws and 250GB Samsung 840 non-Pro (no mech HDDs). Mobo thermal control brings the rear Antec fan down right down - I ha...

PSU issue?
I recently installed a 460W Seasonic Platinum Fanless PSU and moved my system to a new Antec Solo II. I'd only switched the PC on and off a few times before the other night after shutdown the case power light stayed on. I restarted the PC and this time when I shut down the PC at the end of the proce...

Re: Western Digital Red 3TB & 1TB Hard Drives
I bought the 1 TB model as it is slightly quieter. I am glad I did -- even the 1 TB model is now the loudest component in my system. I am going to have to look into getting an enclosure to help contain the noise. I have only allocated about 250 GB of the drive, as my storage needs are small. I ther...

Thanks so much for these tests :) Was this the final part, just checking before I got out and buy a Phanteks PH-F140TS :D The final part? of 140mm fan testing? Well, for now, but fans trickle in from many sources and when we have enough of them, we do these roundups. So my answer is, you won't see ...

Re: Seasonic Platinum Fanless 520W PSU
I bought the 460W Seasonic Platinum Fanless to replace my dead Antec Phantom 500 (7+ years usage). I'd have preferred the 400W but no one had it in stock and I needed a replacement ASAP. I also bought an Antec Solo II at the same time to replace my P180. I haven't spent a lot of time with the Season...

dan As to the losing of the magic stuff inside heatpipes - well, I guess we will be very well able to verify if Ninja, or similar ancient cooler, can still work all right after 10 years. Mine dates back to early 2006, so gimme some more time and I'll report back. I'm sure SPCR could also produce a ...

Yeah I decided to go ahead and order the Seasonic fanless yesterday
Have also ordered an Antec Solo II. The vents at the top should allow the Seasonic to release its heat directly.

Thanks, that was actually the front runner alternative in this thread :) One thing I noticed though: Nexus have a revamped version (v1) of the NX-5000 but according to their own graphs idle load noise is higher than the old version :/ Original http://www.nexustek.nl/images/nx5000r3noiselevelgraph.jp...

I can not recommend Crashplan highly enough. Proper backup with versioning (and not only duplicating the files), and you can do it peer-to-peer to one or more friend's computers for free offline backup. Been running it for a few years now (my server acts as a backup server for 10+ computers) and it...

Re: NoFan CR-95C Copper Fanless CPU Cooler
But one serious problem persists: how to backup that NAS? ;-) I have 2x 1TB WD Red drives in the HP. Both are pooled (meaning I only have 1TB usable) and all data is duplicated across both drives. If the system drive fails I can pull either of the drives out, stick it in my PC and have access to my...

Re: NoFan CR-95C Copper Fanless CPU Cooler
at some point when SSD can reach multi-terabyte capacity, it should be possible to combine no-fan w/seasonic fanless PSU for a truly silent pc. Actually, I am just about there now. The only storage device in one of my PCs is a 240G SSD, this is plenty for my OS & apps, and the old HP MicroServer on...

Re: Help me choose a new case + PSU
I'm not convinced the Seasonic SS-360GP will be quiet enough Why do you assume this? If anything it would be quieter than either of the Nexus models which are both quite out of date and not very efficient so can never be as quiet. I'm not assuming anything, I'm going by the SPCR table here Nexus ha...

Help me choose a new case + PSU
Sadly, after 7 years' extreme temperature abuse, my faithful Antec Phantom 500 has finally given up. My P180 of the same age could probably do with being replaced too; the panels are warped and the inaccessible power button annoys me. Unfortunately I can't find the Nexus Value 430 anywhere in the UK...

Re: NoFan CR-95C Copper Fanless CPU Cooler
I love this product. If I was planning a build from scratch I'd plan the system around it, but right now I know it wouldn't work with my current RAM and I'd need to be measure for my graphics card and case. Happy with my heatsink for now but maybe for the next build...

I had no idea the brand name was actually 'Sea Sonic', I initially thought the PR person had made a huge blunder
Is it just the the retail brand that's 'SeaSonic' then?

Hi CA_Steve, thanks for the in-depth post :) I love my dual Dell 20" IPS screens - wouldn't trade them for any other set-up! Dual 24" IPS screens would be nice, but my desk/room couldn't handle the width! I'd looked up the reviews so I had an idea what cards will run it, it was more specific models ...

Any midrange graphics cards quiet when idle?
My system is mainly used for work and for that I like it to be as quiet as possible. However, when I play StarCraft 2 (HotS expansion) I have the speakers on and I don't have to worry about PC noise. Normally the only moving part in the system is a top mounted 120mm Nexus RS controlled by the Mobo t...

Just to update - I got my Noctua NH-U12 and have never looked back. Re: Western Digital Red 3TB & 1TB Hard Drives
Did I miss the explanation as to why the 1TB performs so much worse? I bought 2x1TB Reds practically on release day because a) my storage needs are extremely modest and b) I wanted redundancy, so although a 3TB drive would have offered significantly more storage at less cost I wanted duplication acr...

Hey Jordan, you're right, I don't know how my usage will change in the future. But knowing my current usage, is it worth it spending 50EUR more on the 120GB version instead of waiting until I need more? If I can't justify the extra 40EUR for an i5-3570K because I know I won't overclock or the extra...

Re: New build, which fans?
120GB SSDs are so cheap right now (definitely the SSD sweet spot) I think it's crazy not to go for one over a 60GB. I have a 60GB drive with 9GB free btw. I've had it two years and when I bought it I was only using 30GB and I regularly do clean-ups, but the point is you never know how your usage wil...
