If I understand NHC correctly your supposed to be able to write your own sourcecode in .net (c# i believe) for systems that aren't "officially" supported. I haven't looked into it since I got a notebook cooler which gave me the desired result without the hazzle of running software for controlling th...

ASUS A7JC mini review

ASUS A7Jc 17"WXGA+,ATI X1600,Core2 Duo T5600,2 GB,120GB,DVD±RW,WLAN/BT,TV,MCE [EDIT] I've just finished a few hours of desktop work on battery and with this power source the computer is a completely different beast. The keyboard is still cold to the touch. The fan is barely audible. Actually, I can...

My NB47J also got really hot to the touch when there wasn't any airflow around it. So while the case was open, I had a 80mm. fan blowing directly onto it. When I had got the system together, the airflow of the case (unforced intake at front and forced 80mm outlet at the back + PSU outletting some of...

@enakje At the pics You can clearly see there would be real clearance issues running SLI. Not to mention trying SLI with 2xVF700. But @Zalman they've successfully installed NB47J and 2x6600GTs while running their performancetests on the same motherboard I use. I've also seen pictures of people hacki...

Tyan really makes good cards. I wish I had had the patience to wait for this one. Maybe I'll throw the A8N out the window for this one, should it ever reach the Swedish market.

Remember that the CU version is considerably hevier and might put a lot of strain on the interfacing port.

I'm really pleased with my VF700 AlCu.

I'm almost scared of how quiet this system has become. With the sides open, I don't hear if it's on or not until the HDD starts spinning.

My wife came close to hard rebooting it when she was about to turn the power off at the socket without checking if the computer was running or not.

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe + Zn NB47J + Zn VF700AlCu = true

I've just installed this combo on my setup. I just wanted to inform that with my Sapphire X800XL it just about fitted (a few fins on the VF700 is bent where the NB47J obstructs the space). On the more sombre side, the fit on the card visavi the cooler wasn't perfect. It fits at some 45 degrees angle...

From what I could make out of the manual, all power except the 4-pin CPU connection gets the 12V power from 12V1, even the 6-pin PCI-E connections. I guess it's not more than fair that the CPU gets unrestricted access to 12V2 considering the 113watts the faster P4s are pulling.

I didn't plug a molex to the EZ-plug. I might do it if the rig gets unstable while playing. Otherwise it just adds clutter to my clutterfree design.

I'm actually unsure how the NeoPower distributes 12V1 and 12V2. I'll study the manual when I get home.

Asus support supposedly recommends the NeoPower480. From what I've heard partly because of the dual 12V rails.

Anyways, the NeoPower is really silent. Much less noise than my FSP350.

@Tzupy If I were You, I would try to make it run with Your FSP and a 20-24pin adapter. I'm fairly positive the board runs more stable with 24 pins (the added 12V source probably does something). Well, I just tested with my new Antec NeoPower480, and I succesfully got it to POST, with only CPU, 2*512Mb RAM and the X800XL gfx. I clearly noticed that it was another type of feed into the mb. I couldn't say if the FSP350 was a nogo because it lacked the 24pin power connection (There seems to be ...

From what I've read, the Asus support seems very supportive of the NeoPower 480. Seems to have something to do with the 24-pin power supply and two 12V rails, with the extra 12V feeding from the second line and adding stability. Supposedly, the two 12V rails and the 24-pin power connection was desig...

Thanks for your answer Merlin! I've been looking around a bit, and people contacting Asus support has been told that it actually works using a 20pin power connection, but then they recommend a high power PSU, something like a 550watt! The extra 4 pins are a 3V, a 5V and a 12V and a ground. I guess t...

Yes, maybe you're right, merlyn. I would however like to emphasize that my PSU only has 18A at the 12V rail. That's the big drawback. Isn't there any risk of shorting the mb if it isn't grounded and bolted to the case? Otherwise it would simplify a lot for me, naturally. When I tested, I used all po...

I'm also planning on installing a dvd-writer (I'm currently sitting on a cd-rw writer and a dvd-reader - not a good solution). I know ATI doesn't supporrt SLI, but here in Sweden there just isn't any nForce4 Deluxe cards around (just plain nForce4, and most of them don't support cool'n'Quiet), and the difference in price isn't that big. Just an idiots idea

When reading about the whole massive wood vs. plywood disc., I thought about MDF-board. I'm actually thinking about building a case in MDF, since it's quite good for aucoustics and it's more or less dead, yet made by wood.
