Re: 120hz monitors and gaming

I'm not so sure that's true. They reviews I've looked at test at a variety of resolutions, including 1920x1080, and with a variety of games, including Crysis which is very demanding, but also games that are less so such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Hawx, etc. I certainly want to be able to play as man...

Re: 120hz monitors and gaming

In regards to games not running over 60FPS... Hardware reviews tend to review newest, most demanding games on high resolutions -- 2560x1600 or higher with full graphics options enabled. If you aren't playing the most demanding games and are only playing on 1920x1080 or so, exceeding 60FPS is very po...

Re: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x

Indeed, the Gigabyte 6850 has an incorrect default fan profile. I just have to wonder about the QA on this thing. I use Trixx, and the problem is solved. For me personally and my current setup, I try my best to not exceed 45% fan speed.

Re: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x

I had to back off my memory overclock to 1040. I was getting strange desktop cursor corruption. I'm not sure if I messed up the thermal pad for the memory while reTIMing or something...lowest report I've seen on the net is 1100.

Re: Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 very silent and not even vapor-x

Reporting in on a Gigabyte 6850...Overall, I'm very happy with the performance increase and noise decrease compared to my reference 8800GTS 320MB. Trixx vs. MSI's AB: For overclocking purposes, I found that I preferred Trixx. MSI's was not usable for me, as once I set my core speed, it would no long...

Haha, kater, I know exactly what you mean. I'm rather confused about this card so far. Most of the reviews show that it's as loud or louder than the Cyclone (which is apparently louder than the Gigabyte.) The SPCR users rate the Twin Frozr II as very quiet on other cards, though. Is this because the...

780MHz stock core! It seems to have a price premium over the 1GB cyclone, but who knows if that'll translate to prices elsewhere.

I have *heard* that this BIOS allows 0-100% fanspeed. There are also other BIOSs out other this, unless the other sources are the same as this. I haven't used this, so use at your own risk.

330W Enough for 8800 GTS 320MB + C2D 2.8GHz ?

I just ordered an 8800 GTS 320MB. Usually, I find that manufacturers are very generous with their power supply requirements. Nvidia says that a 400W is required. I have a Seasonic S12 330W. Will this be enough? I think the card draws 120W + CPU 65W max + 3 or 4 optical drives + sound card + 4GB RAM?...

One note on using the S1 (or any other passive cooler for the 8800GT): you need to put memory heatsinks on the various and sundry power ICs as they get really hot otherwise. I happened to go with the HR-03 GT instead of the S1, but I can see how that could and should do a fantastic job with the 880...

E6300 Ninja 2.8GHz Overlocking Experience *fixed oc temps*

Update 6300 @ 2.8 GHz: ~40C idle with EIST (2.4 GHz), ~60C orthos load (I'm estimating that the fan speeds are 800-1000 now as opposed to 1000-1200+ previously, so load temperature has improved even more than it appears!) I don't know if you will hear the difference, but you can further decrease turbulence by sanding the 4 plastic motor mounts so they have a cross-section teardrop shape. I'd add 3. Larger cross-sectional area for whatever air flow channels are developed so less friction and lower air speed for a given flow rate, means less noise and the fans don't have to work as hard. From what I understand, more friction (turbulence) and velocity equals more cooling, which allows...
