Not really sure if my firmware version is exactly the same. 8rdavcore reports that mine is V33OA63A and drive is manufactured in 06/2004. I think drive probably still moves its heads when it idles longer time. Sound, however, resembles more like typical seek noise, only tad noisier. It has been in u...

So maybe the Sempron runs cooler. It might be worth it for that. In most of the current benchmarks Sempron lands very close to the a64 2800, so I admit question which to choose is rather academical. Cooling point is a good one and when you get system up and running, please share your experiences. T...

I think its the high price of the sempron 3100 that makes it currently an unattractive purchase. At least in Europe difference between sempron 3100 and fully featured a64 2800 is typically only around 10 euros.

Re: XP1700 -> OCed Mobile 2500 or XP 3200?

I've got a similar question - have been running an ABit NF7-S 2.0 with an Athlon XP 1700 for the last year. I'm thinking about doing a CPU upgrade and don't know whether I'd be better off with an XP 3000/3200 or an OCed Mobile 2500 (just running at the stock 2500 speed doesn't seem like enough of a...

Ok, I think I figured out the source of the "hollow" noise. http://us.f2.yahoofs.com/users/415da426z5def57e3/52a7/__sr_/3cb5.jpg?phGubXBB7z5G9A_r This is a slightly older pic, but configuration was identical, 80 mm cpu fan pulling slowly air to the case fan. I'm pretty sure that noise was not presen...

Burcakb: Fan is v1.6 and currently mounted with rubber sticks. Sound I can hear is quite low and hollow (like it would echo somehow from the case), but its quite possible that vibrations play part in this. Noisetaker was surprisingly tight fit, so it might transmit vibrations to the back panel. Than...

Suggestions how to get system even more quiet ?

Seems that I have hitted the wall with my current system: Antec 3700AMB (back fan grille removed) Enermax Noisetaker 370 W (apfc) Abit nf7-s (passively cooled) Tbred 1.33-2Ghz + Sharkoon HPS1 + Nexus 80mm (guesstimate @ 9V) 512 Mb DDR400 Hercules Radeon 9600 (passively cooled) Hitachi 7K250 120 GB A...

PSU is quiet, but effect on overall noise level was slight disappointment. At the moment primary source seems to be Antec case fan (1600 rpm version @ 5 V), only slig...

I tried to lower fsb both stepwise and directly without success. Booting with 166 fsb allows me to jump between presets 133/1.35V,166/1.55V and 200/1.675V. I havent experienced any problems after the change and in fact current uptime is about week now. :)

I fiddled with this program a while ago and noticed bit strange behaviour. When I first tried to boot into XP with 200 fsb, I ended constant hanging if I tried to go to lower than 170 fsb. Strangely enough, when I changed boot settings from BIOS to 166 fsb, program has worked flawlessly between 133-...

Maybe failure is just fluke, but long term reliability, especially in machines that are on 24/7, is still pretty much unknown in fanless PSUs. Well, I was a coward and already decided last week to go with Noisetaker rather than Silverstone.

I'm not so happy with this answer. I think there's no straight black&white answer to this. If you for example have PSU with 92/120 mm bottom fan, tower HS without a shroud will get cooling aid from PSU fan. You can most probably cool cpu with less cfm, but warmer air adds risk that PSU fan speeds u...

Dobby, So, are you telling me that your Sharkoon HPS1 together with the Nexus 80mm undervolted to 9V, can not be heard at all inside the case ?. Is that the only fan in your computer ?. At default it's not of course only fan, but I made some tests where other fans were stopped for a short while and...

If you are planning to cool only stock xp2400+, I think its waste of time trying to fix larger fan HS. I don't have HT101, but Sharkoon HPS1 which according to tests should have slightly lower capacity. However, its perfectly capable to handle cooling of similar processor with nexus 80 mm fan underv...

I agree that prime95 torture is good way to start testing and if it's stable I would run either aquamark or 3dmark, which stresses also GPU. You mentioned earlier that shutdown happened shortly after gaming period so it's wise to test also under maximum stress.

Maybe this test will help you in decision http://www.skenegroup.net/fi/artikkelit ... ol_ht101.4. :) Sorry, text is in Finnish, but I think you'll understand graphs and different fans used in the test. Apparently, it seems that HT-101 is slightly better when low cfm fan is used.

I use 8rdavcore and my poorly undervoltable tbreb b mostly [email protected] V and raise it when I actually do work to [email protected] V.

Unless you have stability problems stop worrying and you should not need more powerful PSU. Voltage readings through motherboard can't be considered exactly accurate and that's most probably the reason.

You're welcome. :) I think Sharkoon is based on heat...
