IIRC they was a plan to release a plain black version at some point after the initial release. They were keeping the SPCR edition the only black version available for a while and then were going to release a regular black one too, or at least I seem to remember reading that somewhere...

If you want to stick with this fan it sounds like your options are limited to: 1. Pressing F1 on startup - Slightly inconvenient but certainly not difficult. 2. Locating an appropriate bios with an option to disable this fan monitoring feature or modifying the bios yourself - sounds like you've had ...

Interestingly enough the fan died on my visiontek gf3 ti500 for the 2nd time a few months ago. I RMA'd it the first time it happened when the card started acting strangely and refusing to power up with the system intermittenly. Strange thing is this time around it didn't prove problematic. The fan i...

32C ambient must feel like a sauna

Taking that into account those temps look just fine to me. Anything less than 60C is comfy for an athlon64 at load in my experience.

I don't use hibernate or standby or anything personally. My PC is on pretty much 24/7 as I run a couple small server programs in the background (VoIP for my family, ftp, etc). And still no good response from ATi, just more requests for the same info over and over :x

My card is also all stock clock speeds, never had a reason to change them. I've started a support ticket with ATi and got a couple canned responses so far, hopefully I can make it through to a real answer soon.

If you're sure an xp-120 will fit on your mobo I'd go with that. For cleaning the HS, after wiping down with alcohol it should evaporate so quickly (within seconds generally unless you're really soaking the thing I suppose) that drying won't be necesary.

Thanks FG. I'm not totally decided on a P180 yet although they're tempting in everything but price. Good to know the SP looks like a great choice for it as its considerably cheaper than most of the other 500w options out there. Out of curiosity, what's the cable length like on the SP? Would it be an...

Good to hear its not just me. I've been trying a few more things here and it definitely seems to be excess heat from the gpu causing my problems. Is it possible that with more efficient drivers the CPU has to work harder, thereby resulting in the crash? Just speculating here... I have the same video...

Has anyone who has purchased the SP-500 been able to compare it to an S12-500 in terms of noise and voltage stability? I was all set on the S12 until I saw the great impressions people have been getting of these new smartpowers... but its all been very subjective so far.

Catalyst 5.6 significantly increasing heat production?

I have a 9800pro 128mb with a VGA Silencer on it. I installed the catalyst 5.6 drivers as soon as ATI released them a couple weeks ago. Shortly thereafter I had several crashes in 3d apps / games and noticed that this was from my cpu + vidcard reaching nearly 70C! These two components are frequently...

I've also had my eye on this psu for a while. I'd love to hear how it runs noise / temp / efficiency wise. IIRC its got 2 80mm fans which could potentially be replaced with panaflos. Its certainly a nice looking psu with the mirror finish and UV pre-wrapped modular cable setup. The 12V line providin...

If I understood correctly (which might not be the case as I don't read French), they adjusted the CPU voltage before running it heatsink-less. http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/cm/g5m100-n/itxpm-8.htm Pate I think that's correct, they had it significantly underclocked and undervolted before those ...

I've been playin around with this system quite a bit and temps don't vary much with and without the side panel, maybe 1~2 C tops. I just got an A64 3000+. I bought a thermalright 948U + SilenX 92mm 14dBa to go on it. Some people warned against the SilenX fan due to low static pressure not being particularly good for heatsink use and I think they may be right, although it seems adequate. I get about 43C idle and 54C load with t...

Well quick update, got the system all put together. At all stock settings the SilenX 92MM + Thermalright SLK948U seems adequate. I think I should be ok the with SilenX fan. The 92mm at 12V is rated at 14dBa, 2000RPM, and 36 CFM. That's only 6CFM less then a panaflo L1A at 12V and with nearly half the dB. This will be sitting in my Antec P160 with a 120mm intake and a 120mm exhaust (probably also silenX 14dB/58CFM, though I ha...

The stock HSF probably comes with a thermal pad already stuck on so reusing isn't likely to work. I'd recommend you get some Arctic Silver 5, definitely don't go without any thermal interface material.

It shouldn't be too difficult. Rumour has it the socket775 retention mechanism is pretty nice to work with. Out of curiosity, what are you using / planning to use for a fan on the 948u?
