Re: Are there any alternatives to the Antec NSK3480?

I will also include the suggestions you made above to product development. Regards, Antec How about an all black front? I'd also like a version of this case designed for use a Mini-ITX NAS server. Get rid of all 5.25 bays and have the side-mounted 3.5 bays take of the entire front. I would mind rem...

I got a IBM ThinkPad X200s with the 1.8 ghz CULV chip. Added an SSD to it and now it's silent unless the CPU gets stressed. These CULV laptops are really the way to go if you want silence.

I own one of the Sans Digital TR8U 8-bay JBOD USB enclosures. It can be made to be quiet after you replace the 120 mm fan. Weirdly the 80 mm fan in the PSU is already nearly silent. And 5400 rpm drives are a must. SMART data doesn't pass through to the host.

No, I think it was with the Fall 2008 models where the significant noise reductions came in. Those were the 2nd generation 40gb. The 1st generation 40gb had much less heat but still made too much noise because the fan was primarily cooling the more efficient chip. This link has the model details: ht...

The 40/80gb systems made after fall 2008 produce a LOT less heat and noise than the 60s. The difference is like comparing a Pentium 4 3.0+ ghz system to a modest Core2 Duo. If you're the kind of person to visit this site, you probably won't be happy with a 60gb after you've seen one of the newer one...

Yeah, the Ninja fits in easily. The only possible problem is that the chipset heatsink on my board is tall so it would be impossible to fit the fan onto the Ninja. But that is an issue with the board, not the case.

Sorry, I don't have any pics.

Yeah, the TriCool has a 3 position switch and a molex power connector. I'm going to swap it out for something that runs slower and that can be controlled by the motherboard. So far I'm very pleased with the case. I'm using the 1.8 ghz E2160 at stock speed with the Ninja with no CPU fan. The only fan...

I've gotten mine up and running. However I'm afraid to report that the G35 Windows drivers will not work at 1080p on my Westinghouse 37w3. If fact it can't go above 1280x1024. And there is always a big purple line down the left side of the screen and some random colors in the pillarboxes.

What I definitely plan on doing is flipping the power supply from the standard orientation so that the wires are closer to the pass through on top. My case just arrived (everything else is due tomorrow) but I immediately noticed that the PSU is already flipped straight from the factory. I am going ...

A very timely review. I just ordered one of these to go in an Antec 3480 with an Intel E2160 1.8 ghz CPU. I really hope this board is stable.

firefox90, I'm looking forward to reading about your experiences. That Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R does look nice. It doesn't have DVI/HDMI but at this point I would be satisfied getting a passively cooled ASUS Radeon HD 2400 Pro to go with it. However, a similar board from Gigabyte got bad marks for bein...

Also, the Asus P5E-VM HDMI motherboards look very tempting, even at $150. But they've just started shipping so there's no idea how stable they are.

Non-gaming Antec 3480 build, video encoding box

I'm looking to replace my Dell 400sc 2.8 P4 + HIS ATI X800 Pro system with a cooler running and quieter build. The old 400sc was used for gaming, video encoding and net surfing but the new one will not need to be gaming at all. Here's my shopping cart so far: Antec NSK3480 micro atx, $90 G.SKILL 2x1...

My HIS X800 Pro arrived yesterday. So far it's been great.

At idle, I can't hear it above the CPU fan so it didn't add any noise above the case fan of my Dell 400sc that I can tell.

nifti, that isn't an Excalibur with IceQ II cooler. That's just a normal XT from ATI. Even then, it isn't in stock and it probably won't be for several weeks.

Off topic, Switzerland suffers from a lack of competition. Prices are much higher than Sweden.

Yeah, the VAT is tough but you are lucky to live in Sweden. I would rather pay the VAT than live in the US and get cheap computer parts. :) I lived in Switzerland for a while and they are more expensive than Sweden and have a lot less selection. I've looked through the PCconnection.com catalog and c...

I have a Dell Optiplex GX260 SFF machine with the PowerColor 9600se being used as a HTPC. It works fine for me. I really like that card for a low profile case.
