I had a roommate that let so much dust build up on the CPU heatsink that air was no longer hitting it. That was the end of that processor. It got so hot that the plastic fan mounts melted off the heatsink.

I have the DS3 and a Ninja. I'm not sure if you can find one, but if you can get ahold of one with the old mounting system it will fit without any grinding.

An intake fan would have to run at somewhat high RPMs in order to get enough airflow over the regulators. I'm guessing the fan will have to be mounted closer to the heatsink itself.

I thought about a fan swap, but I'm using the slot below the Zalman so it cannot stick out any farther.

I'm attempting to make my Sapphire x1950xt quieter. I tried installing a vf900 but the temperature would get too high (100*C). The max was around 85*C with stock. If you're simply looking for the same effect as Soundstorm (encoding to DD) the latest version of ac3Filter contains a software encoder that may accomplish what you are looking to do.
