Re: Poll - Are you Sandy Bridge early adopters affected?

I just finished an Asus P8P67 PRO build and am very happy with it (it's wicked fast). I'm glad I got in before the "freeze". I'm happy w/ the way Intel is handling it and expect Asus to swap the board out if I feel like it. Given that I have 4 SATA III ports anyway which is plenty to handle a (futur...

Seems like a less restrictive hard drive design and softer mounting method a la Antec Solo would be brilliant in this case. FYI: here's some pics of my install in an FT01: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=50554 I stripped the HD cage completely and mounted my HD enclosure on foa...

Overall I still like the case - I don't think my feelings have changed much. The large fans work great and the cable routing was fantastic. I don't think I've ever had a case where all of the cables ended up completely out of any airflow like this one. But, I don't think it's worth the money they're...

I have to disagree... mostly :) I just built a Vista 64bit system a few weeks ago and the only problems I had were a Cisco VPN client (been a problem for literally 3 years or so) and my SkyCaddie golf GPS. I solved the VPN problem (which I need for telecommuting) by using Virtual PC w/ a copy of Win...

Don't tell me this is going to be another mystery like the Velociraptor... supposedly very quiet/silent in spcr's test chamber but found to be noisy by various users. Reading the data one can compare it to the HD4830, which in turn uses the same stock cooler as the HD4850 (AFAIK), the latter being ...

Overall I'm very glad I got the 260 instead of the 4870: - Lower idle power usage - Expels hot air out of the case - No need to buy an aftermarket cooler So does the 4870, are you thinking of the 4850? No - but from what I read I would need an aftermarket cooler to keep the 4870 at a reasonable noi...

I have the EVGA Core 216 version but I'd guess they're identical since they are both just reference boards AFAIK. It's generally pretty quiet. Default fan speed on mine is 40% and it's not very noticeable at all. If I manually set it at 100% it sounds terrible - but I've been playing Fallout 3 for s...

Awsome that you compare it to the P180. You think the top 180 mm fan will be close enough to the CPU cooler to basicly work as a cooler fan to? Im thinking of either this or the Mini P180 because they got huge fans. I like that alot. :D The positive pressure thing is weird though... It would be fun...

Well I read about all the failures people had on newegg w/ the 1TB model and so I decided to go w/ the 640GB model hoping it would be more reliable... My drive died after less than 3 weeks of use (SMART is reporting a dead drive). It may or may not be representative but given the seemingly high fail...

How effective is the smart drive enclosure on your drive ? Extremely effective if you soft mount it. I have it sitting on 4 pieces of soft foam and it's completely silent. I might be able to mod the PSU inlet but its underneath the rubber feet so I'd have to modify that as well - very annoying. It is good to read of your quiet experience! This thread seems to suggest some variation on the quietness between manufacturer/model. Which manufacturer/model of 260 GTX core 216 did you get?[/quote]

I have to say I really like this card. I just got a 260 GTX core 216 and it's surprisingly quiet. It's definitely not silent but the normal fan controller on it works very well. In normal email/web stuff, I can't hear the card at all (or it blends with the other slight fan noise from my case). At fu...

FYI You could also look at the Nvidia 260 GTX 216 core cards. They have roughly the same performance as the 4870 and use less power. AFAIK, there are no aftermarket coolers for them right now though. Thermalright HR-03 GTX is on the way which should fix that nicely (no ETA yet though).

Isn't anyone else curious what this means:
2) the mounting platform for the PSU has been lowered (for reasons that cannot be divulged at this time)
What could the reason be? And, more importantly, why can't it be divulged?

From a silence aspect, the big hole in the front isn’t so impressive, and that 180mm fan trying to blow through that tightly stacked 7 hdd cage –not clever. Should of mounted the fan on the mobo side of the hdd cage, and had it sucking through. I'd assume most silent folks will remove at least ...
