Call me old school, but I've read a lot of CPUs failing to post with convex heatsinks. In fact, I had one do it to me when I was water cooling a few months back and the whole "convex curve" waterblock idea was really new and popular. My board didn't POST at all, and all it took was a remounting of t...

As the board cannot capture video, I don't see how encoding can be tested. How well it performs it this regard would be up to the machine's overall horsepower (CPU, RAM, HDD), and the capture card and software used. I know you need an encoder to do this; what I was mainly asking was how it performe...

Lawrence, I noticed that you did testing on the decoding of HD streams... Did you do any on encoding streams? Did I just miss it? I think that some people are interested in using this as an HTPC, and it's nice to know it supports audio over HDMI and that it can handle the decoding very well with any...

This could be easily done tho -- leave the door to the chamber open during the stress testing to ensure reasonable air circulation and close it only when we're wanted to record/measure a change in the noise -- which we'll listen for. Perhaps reason for another upgrade down the line but... You could...

Re: Are lights Necessary?

I would think that the lights above your tank would not be necessary (unless you have live plantings). As long as you don't have your tank in a closet, I would think normal ambient light should be fine (at least for your time away). Now if it were a reef tank (like mine), Most corals require a lot ...

I don't really understand why the temp would go to 85-90 if the ac is set to 82, though? Good question. The reason is that the lights and pumps dump their heat into the water as well. Mainly it's the lights that do it. I know what you're thinking... "Turn off the lights. Duh." Here's the problem. B...

Aquarium/Fish Owners

All, I have an aquarium that is a freshwater tank. I have two comets and a pleco in there. The tank is a 75 gallon with two 250W heaters and an XP4 canister filter. I usually keep the temp at 73 degrees F (23 degrees C). The lights are a triple-tube fluorescent, 32W per tube. The temperature during ...

The problem with using the mounting without a backplate is that you could potentially bend the motherboard if it exerts too much pressure. :( I understand this thoroughly! :) I was meaning that I want to use the backplate AND the Crazy Cool (Since if I remove this, I have to remove the entire heatp...

the ninja copper has a bolt-thru kit exactly like the ninja rev A has. but even with that, the ninja copper weighs over 1kg. to be really honest, unless the motherboard is in a horizontal position, i'd be scared to mount that on a motherboard. you may just get the ninja Rev B with the thermalright ...

All, Does anyone have any ideas about the mounting of the Ninja Copper on this board? Do I have to get longer screws? If so, how long should I get? Are the push-pins for the Rev B ok to use, or does it not apply pressure appropriately? I'd really like to stick to the Ninja versions of the Scythe lin...

I always thought that the Noctua was found to not push as much air with back pressure, such as mounted as exhaust and HS fans, which I plan on using these fans for.

Does this hold true for the slipstreams?

Thank you

Of course, now they are selling open-cornered fans at Jab-Tech.

Just what sort of fan control will you use? The YL will be turning more rpms at the same voltage than the Scythe. In order to get the YL quieter, you need to run less voltage. If your controller uses PWM, the fans usually will start ok at low voltages, but each fan suffers from PWM induced noise, w...

Yate Loon 12SL or Scythe SFlexE (Both at 7V)?

All, I've been trying to bone up on new air cooling technology since I've been water cooling for the past two or three years. In the old days Nexus was the fan of choice, until the YL became more previlant in the retail channels. Now, however, I'm stuck with a conundrum. I am not sure if I should ru...

Yeah, I'd agree that if you only have a PSU exhausting the case, I'd definately be careful. My PSU runs at 800 RPM all the time, but it's inside the P182 lower chamber with a YL on 7V and two 1TB Seagates. I would also consider trying to keep your HDD above the PSU in this situation, as I think that...
