If ypu have two or more standalone drives, and one of them dies, you only lose the data on that drive. If a RAID 0 drive dies, you lose all the data on the entire array, because most of the files will have split into two or more pieces. You can't recover the data from the other drives in the array, ...

Can't comment on the WD320, but the HD322HJ does support AAM, and is set by default to maximum performance (loudest).

In terms of the read and write transfer performance, an F1 will beat a current generation Raptor hands down. The Raptor’s 39% spindle RPM advantage can’t compensate for the F1’s fourfold advantage in areal density. Tom’s Hardware review of the 1TB F1 noted a 22% higher average read transfer,...

Got one

Just bought one today. First impressions are reasonably positive. Rotational noise is much the same character as my T-series HD501J, albeit quieter by 1-2db - idle is pretty much inaudible from a few feet, and shoved into a Scythe Quiet Drive in my computer, I can't hear anything at all - neither id...

Odd

If you mean the single platter HD322HJ, I thought it was already out. There are a number of places in the UK selling it. I'm surprised its not selling in the US yet. http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/Samsung-HD322HJ-SpinPoint-F1-320GB-7200RPM-SATA-3GB/s-16MB-Cache-OEM_6208.html http://www.dacompute...

Twice as loud before I enabled AAM. After setting to 128, and running in a while, it's quietened a bit more. However, since its mounted in a drive silencer, it isn't easy to be exact. It's quieter than I expected. I'm afraid I don't know the power consumption, but I'm fairly sure it's more than the ...

Yes, I have AAM set to 128. The drive temperature in use is stabilsing at about 48C now, which is higher than the Saumsung, but still acceptable. So far, the noise level is still agreeably low.

No, fraid not. But the Quiet Drive is quite effective at cooling. The temperature peaked at 49, but that was after a full format. Which, incidentally, takes HOURS.

Drive temps are around 40C compared to an ambient of around 22C, which isn't bad considering that the only airflow in the case is generated by a 7V Nexus 120mm.

Just bought one. First impression is positive. The drive isn't as quiet as the Samsung 500GB, but I didn't expect it to be. Subjectively, it seems about twice the noise, but it's a fairly smooth swishing sound that's easy to tune out. Vibration is even lower than the Samsung. With AAM enabled at ful...

Not really. The drive cache is so small compared to the total amount of data on the drive, that the odds of a cache hit are quite small.
