I have about the same power profile as you do (P4 2.4, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, 1 HDD) and I chose a Seasonic S12-380. It performs admirably. My Zalman CNPS-7000AlCu is noisier than my PSU. I have tried it in two different cases and in both the noise was extremely low (I have to put my ear beside it to ...

I would connect the Panaflo directly to the mobo header. Computer fans draw so little power (especially an L1A) that it's almost impossible to adversely affect the mobo in any way, and the header was designed for that purpose after all. But sthayashi's suggestion would be needed anyway since the fan...

If there're no intake fans installed, will air be pulled in only through the dust filters? Probably not. Unless the case is completely airtight except for the fan holes, some air will leak through the spaces between the optical drive bay panels, etc, but most of it should come in through the filter...

Cases available for preorder in Canada

The cases are now available for preorder @ FrontierPC. One of the two cases doesn't have a picture, so I guess it's the SPCR black one. Silver I've noticed the cases are not displayed in the "silent" section, only in the regular cases one. I'll send them an email about that. Incredibly good work, Mi...

It depends on a few things. Would the fan blow air out or into the case ? And is your case pressure negative or positive ? The effects of doing this can be difficult to predict. The airflow of your case might change for worse and if your case pressure is negative, dust might come in, which Bluefront...

I just got a S12-380, and I am also a very happy customer. The Seasonic replaces a 2-year-old 360W High Power PSU (without PFC) which was quite noisy, especially after one of its fans started making some annoying bearing noise. The noise emitted by the Yate Loon fan in the PSU (at ~35°C intake and ~...

Getting 7V to the VF700 requires a little rewiring of the included molex adapter (there's no fan mate included), though, so I don't know if it's worth the trouble, since even at 5V, the Zalman heatsink is probably cooler than the stock one. Edit : I checked a review posted in HardForums and on the 6...

But active PFC also acts as a very good power regulator, and that probably improves the durability of all the computer's components. Wouldn't that be worth the small efficiency trade-off?

a) With the the Zalman 7700 series, you cannot really "twist it around" as suggested. It's basically lower the heatsink on top of the CPU and screw in the screws. Or am I missing something? As Arctic Silver put it : Please note that some heatsinks cannot be twisted once mounted. You have 2 alternat...

Both optical drives probably draw some, and maybe the FDD too. Best thing would be to check on the manufacturer's site. I know some HDDs don't draw any current on the 5V lead (the Seagate SATA drives and the IDE ones don't IIRC), but maybe yours does. I have no way to make sure, but LEDs usually hav...

All 5V wires are connected to the same lead, since all PSUs I know have only one +5V lead. So it doesn't matter which wire your 7-volted fans or your other devices are connected on, as long as there are enough devices using 5V. You need to draw 360mA on the 5V lead specifically, not from other leads...

I would be careful about putting 2 120mm fans at 7 volts. According to Globe's specs , each fan needs 180mA, so that would mean 360mA total. If I'm not mistaken, that would mean 5V at 360mA would be going back to the PS, if you're using the 7V trick, that is. So make sure you have enough devices to ...
