With the Asus M2A-VM (HDMI) you can go down to 0.8 Volt. Concerning dimensions: uATX 245x229 mm; a couple of mm-s bigger than what you have specified. Has Gb Ethernet. You can disable almost (?) everything (haven't tried the int. video, since I am using that!) i second that. i'm running an M2A-VM a...

Re: Power Measurements on M2A-VM Motherboard

I recently bought a M2A-VM MB to use as a diskless Kubuntu workstation. I installed an Athlon-64 X2 3600+CPU, and 2 GB of PC5300 DDR2 memory. This was installed in an Antec Minuet case and an LG DVD drive. A 80Gb WD IDE drive was used to install Feisty Fawn (March 28?) Kubuntu beta. I experimented ...

Why not an new Amd 690 board? Quite many feats on that chipset. Too bad Asrock don't make any though as their bios rocks on uATX boards. I recently built a computer using the Asus M2A-VM (AMD 690G), with 4200+ EE 65W 90nm, 2x1gb, 1x250gb (WD), dvdrom drive. With the kill-a-watt, it would draw aroun...

I'll post some screenshots later on. why dont you just unplug your cpu fan and go passive? you seem to have enough airflow and the best cpu heatsink there is so there shouldnt b...

I use the arctic cooling rev 2 (or whatever the first generation type was) on my X850XT. It is currently at 43oC at idle, with the fan at lowest speed. I am on my 3rd ATI AIW9600XT. The first two had silencers (the AC VGA Silencer -- original one), and they died after 2-3 months. I don't know what could cause this. I suspect maybe overclocking? Then again, I am wondering about the fan. Maybe it draws too much power (esp when its at 5V where I assum...

I have the enermax noisetaker 475 in one of my systems. I believe mine is the same model that MikeC reviewed (the PFC one). I think its a great powersupply (nice and heavy). Its pretty quiet too -- much quieter than my Sonata Truepower 380. I would have loved to give the Seasonic Super Tornado Rev A...

200W passive power source

Similar to what is used in the shuttle. http://www.mini-box.com/pw-120-M.htm They claim it can power "most" motherboards, with up to 3.0 ghz. Wonder if anybody tried such a thing for a moderate-PC (i.e. P4 2.4 with modest video card, single harddrive). Of course you'd need a very good AC->DC12V inve...

bending pins

Hi. Glad to hear it was a success! A good way of bending pins I found was to get a mechanical pencil, and (having retracted the pencil led inside) stick the CPU pin inside the tip. Then you can bend it back and forth in an easy and controlled manner without bending anything else :)

Yes, that's correct.

For those who are interested, I finally got around to adding a duct to my Sonata. Prior to the duct, my idle temps (passive 7000Cu) were 46oC, and load temps were -- too hot :) I cut a hole, which is directly above the CPU heatsink, and installed a duct. This duct does not actually go deep enough to...

Toshiba 4200 rpm is ~24/31 db idle/seek (this is the one MikeC reviewed) It looks like the 5400rpm is definately louder than the 4200rpm (which we'd assume anyway). ...

I see in your sig that you are running integrated video. I noticed that the northbridge gets considerably hotter in a system with integrated video (P4B533-VML, Aopen AX63Pro, Gigabyte-845GEsomething, and Intel845GE-something).

I wouldn't worry about it too much.
