Re: Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite: Budget AMD Ultrabook

AMD Jaguar is the Atom competitor right? It has nothing to do with the decently performing APUs called A8 and A10? Their lineup is becoming as confusing as Intel's :) Yeah, you're right =) AMD's performance line of APUs (Trinity, Richland) use the A4, A6, A8, and A10 names. AMD's low power APUs (Ka...

Minor typo on page 7:
Both the 5450 and 5750 passed our video test suite with ease
Informative review though.

Actually, now i'm beginning to think that it's a memory issue. I'm getting crashes with and without a pci-e card. the nortbridge heatsink is quite warm.

I'm currently testing my system with the memory running at DDR667 speeds.

i don't play much, but i'd like to be able to run some games at playable framerates....maybe something somewhat better than my current radeon 9700 pro (yes, quite old)

I've also been looking at 6800s, but couldn't find anything passive.

Video Card [Recommendation]

I'm building up a new system, and I need a recommendation for a video card. I've been looking for something at the performance level of a Geforce 7600gs or 8500gt. I want to avoid buying aftermarket coolers....are there any quiet (or passive, for that matter) video card offerings? also, any ATI perf...

New Budget System

After helping my friend build his system (his Core 2 Duo E6500 system in his Antec P150 case is quite silent), i was hoping to achieve around the same level of noise with a less expensive build: Athlon X2 4000 <- how's the stock fan's noise? Asus M2A-VM <- under/over clocking/volting capabilities? A...

Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer fan noise

I have one of those old VGA Silencers attached to my radeon 9700 pro. The fan on it is the loudest thing in my system (marginally), and it sounds like it's making a very quiet clicking noise. Would I be able to run my video card passive? or possibly with a fan attached directly on the heatsink? any ...

I'll be getting a 20" LCD soon (1680x1050), which won't be part of my $500 budget. Gaming probably won't involve anything too GPU intensive.

new computer

I'm thinking of building a new computer soon. Its main purpose is for some light gaming and office use. My budget is about $500 CAD.

So far, I've only thought of:
- Antec P150/Solo/etc + Antec NeoHE 430
- an AM2 system

Any recommendations?

I'm thinking of making a laptop cooler, using the USB port as the source. What's the maximum current I can draw safely from one port?

I have a very noisy fan in my Toshiba Portege 3500. I've tried cleaning out the dust from the heatsink/fan area, but it still makes those rattling noises. Could my fan need more bearing lubricant, or is there any other solution? Oh yeah, just to note...the fan doesn't have a visible bearing opening,...

Fan resistor

I'm trying to get 9V for my Arctic Fan 3 using a resistor. It's rated for 0.16A @12V. I just started learning about circuits and stuff, so I tried some calculations. I assumed that the fan was a resistor (not an inductor, since I haven't learned that yet). I used the specs for Zalman's ZM-F1 fan sin...

any way to mount a fan in this fashion?

I'm thinking of a pci slot cover design, but I can't think of a way to change the orientation of the fan. Also, fan vibration is another concern.
