Fans for people

Personal fans... room fans... This must have been discussed here, but my search queries haven't uncovered it... Does anyone have recommendations for quality, quiet fans for cooling people, particularly while sleeping? Ideally, I'd like a ceiling fan, but I'm a renter and it isn't really an option. I...

... if you don't mind a little soldering: I wired up 2 of the Yate Loon fans into one header - I only took the rpm signal from one fan (one isn't connected), but connected the power wires in parallel. It seems to work well, so now the BIOS controls both case fans. Unfortunately, the kernel I'm using...

I'd suggest running Memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) to make sure your memory is good. If it's not, you can get random crashes later and spend a lot of time and effort trying to work out what it is. You also may not be able to return it if you don't find problems early enough. The only reason I'...

I too recommend the Alpine. If your mobo has a 4 pin header, then get the Alpine 7, which is the same as the 64, but with additional hardware [ edit: and, of course, the 4 pin pwm fan instead of the 3 pin]. Fits an AM2 no problem. See the review on this site - and look at those numbers for lower fan...

I see the one 12-32V costs more and has lower efficiency, so there is a tradeoff.

From a business perspective, I would have thought they should just sell the 12-32V to keep their manufacturing and catalog simpler. It's nice for us to have the choice though.

I used one of these 24/7, and it started clicking, and shortly after, it completely died. I can't remember where, but somewhere I saw people complaining about these drives dying. Of course, I hadn't backed up for a couple of weeks :(. It caused me to abandon my ideas of having a 24/7 server using a ...

Please forgive a question without much research, but how do I work out my 12v amperage requirement? I assume the CPU, HD & optical all draw mainly from the 12V? I have: X2 3800+ 65W, should use well under 65W, but a theoretical max of 5.5A if it took that all from 12V 3.5" Samsung SATA drive, up to ...

Best of luck with MythDora - let me know how you get along. I am very comfortable in Linux/Unix, and can't quite imagine what it would be like starting out. Although Knoppmyth these days just installs in about 30 mins, without major issues, every now and then something isn't quite right, and I'm ver...

If you have patience (I didn't), it might be worth waiting to see how the 65nm X2s pan out. I'm more familiar with Debian than Red Hat, so Knoppmyth is good for me. It has a decent wiki and forum community, so solutions are pretty easy to find. I don't know that there's an Azureus appliance set up, ...

So, I got a bonus at work, and went crazy: bought an HDTV (Hyundai E320D, 32" LCD) and built the machine. Comments below the list. The problem is that many audiophiles do reject listening tests also. When differences can't be proven with double-blind-testing claim that thats not a good way to test. And to be honest, although bit-errors are annoying, I have never seen any listening tests where a difference has beens shown (if t...

Sorry to bring up an old review, but I must ask this. Wouldn't output by spdif to another DAC increase jitter? Wouldn't a USB DAC be better in terms of getting rid of jitter in the audio signal? A data point on memory - rrdtool is installed with Knoppmyth (though making it function required a slight tweak), which gives me a graph of memory usage. The volume nob only has effect in software - if you just don't connect it, and/or don't configure software to use it, it will have no effect at all, and the sound output will be entirely down to your motherboard or soundcard.

Blowing would blow air directly at the surrounding components which need cooling. In a sucking configuration, the incoming airflow will be from all directions (and hence slower), rather than the down/out forced flow. It'll take the path of least resistance, which would avoid the mobo components. ......
