I have an Asus DRW-1814BLT (the one with the Quiet Track technology) and it's a very quiet drive as long as it's mount is horizontally (if mounted vertically, the vibration it generates is unbearable). I've heard that the newer Asus drives aren't as quiet as the old DRW-1814BLT but they are still pr...

Kudos to Devon C. for reviewing the Zerotherms. I was looking forward to a SPCR article on these heatsinks since my original post here http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=32896 I do have a question for Devon, are the fans actually capable of running at 750rpm? If so, at what voltage or ...

Well what do you think. I know the ninja is too tall. How tall can I go and still fit the top on the case? Am I gonna be stuck with a zalman 7000 or 7700 at best? Or is there another better option? Perhaps a Thermalright SI-128 or the SI-128 with a LGA-775 bracket? SI-128: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...

Electrical efficiency of CPU processors
I was wondering if anyone knows or can point me to any references relating to the calculation of a CPU's electrical efficiency. I am hoping to use this info on my energy engineering paper relating to the thermal losses of modern CPUs. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all for the suggestions. Elixer, I tried loosening the motherboard screw and it slightly reduced the pitch of the hum. I think the mounting tray of my case is at fault. The tray lacks stiffness /structural support so its flexibility probably aggravated the vibration problem. Felger Carbon,...

Defective Freezer 4?
My Freezer 4 is very quiet when held in the air (and not touching anything) but once mounted, the hsf (at its stock speed of 2300 RPM) makes a very distinctive hum that can be heard several meters away even with the case doors closed. The pitch of the noise was higher than MikeC's recording (obtaine...

Is the Freezer 4 good enough for a Celeron D 340 (S478)?
I am thinking about getting the Freezer 4 to cool the Celeron D 340 as my motherboard does not have any options to undervolt the CPU. Will it be sufficient at, say, 7-9 Volts? (I'd get the XP-90 but I know it's not going to fit in my case.)

my question exactly -- would i be better off with a sp2004c or is a p80 just as good? Accoustic wise, the 2004C does have a higher seek noise (and also a slightly higher pitch) than the older P80s. The older ones also don't have a head scraping noise that's present in the P120s. See here: http://fo...

Well the dimensions of the Nexus DiskTwin is available on EndPCNoise's website here:
http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/dis ... minum.html.
Is this what you're looking for or do you need the dimensions of each component of the DiskTwin?

I am currently running a (very whiny) WD 800JB as my OS HDD and a Samsung SP1614N as my storage HDD. I am not sure if this has been posted or not but you CAN undervolt the A7N8X-E DLX with the nVidia System Utility (NVSU). A few notices... I am not certain if this will work with the non-E A7N8X DLX as the nVidia System Utility does not fully support this mobo. This procedure only works with the nVi...
