My Phantom 350 which I've previously said works fine (Serial D04095162193, purchased around November 2004) died at the start of this month, so it lasted about two years. It had developed an intermittant fault where it would take a few tries to power on, but it never concerned me much as I just left ...

I work for a retail computer store, and one of our suppliers now list the 7600GT SilentPipe II on their website. None in stock it seems, but it must be soon.

Now to find a way to justify buying one for myself...

So out of the Asus, Gigabyte, and Galaxy designs, who do youse think has the better design?

I like the Gigabyte the most, the two-slot design looks solid and I can't imagine it will have any clearance problems (except for taking two slots of course).

But if you look at the X1600XT, the 7900GT in the last graph draws 22 more watts than it. And in the second graph, the X1600xt is drawing 42 watts at load and the 6600gt draws 48. The 7900gt should draw 64 watts, by that reasoning.

Well, it seems the manual for this board no longer mentions Vcore adjustments, and people on the Anandtech forums with experience with this board say it doesnt support vcore adjustment.

Hopefully MSI can release a BIOS adding undervolting support.

True, though if you wanted to use 2 PCI cards like a TV Tuner and Sound card at once, along with a video card, you could use an Aerocool Vm101 or 102 on the video card.

I remember reading in the manual for this board that it does have undervolting options. I have been looking for a S939 board with onboard dvi, component, support for undervolting, and gigabit ethernet, and this is the only board with all those at once.

I've used ATA cables with everything after the slave connector cut off, without any ill effects. I've also used ATA cables where the slave connector was accidently pulled off, without any problems either.

So I'd say its fine :)

A Scythe Ninja will work better as a passive CPU heatsink, it's fins are more spaced out which is very helpful in low airflow environments. Do you plan to use a fan in the lower chamber to cool the Phantom? I would recomend it. The stock Tricool down there is reasonable, but in most situations, a (c...

I have a VF700 on a X800XL card, with a A8N-Sli Deluxe motherboard. My chipset heatsink is a Swiftech MCX-159, without the fan on it. I had to bend a few of the fins on the VF700 to make this fit, but it's fine. The fins are very flexible. The MCX-159 is 40mm high without the fan.

Hi bishop. Would you mind measuring how far off the PCB the top (where the default fan is) of the V1 comes? From the engineering diagram, I think it would be about 20mm, but it's a bit hard to interpret. I'd also consider installing dampening foam too, but it's not something I'll do right away as I ...

fjf, could you provide more details about how the V1 didnt fit with the XP120 on your board? Was the long side of the XP120 inteferring with the V1? The XP120 is L110 x W125 x H63, and the Scythe Ninja is 110 x 110 x 150mm. I am looking at using a V1 with my Asus A8N-SLI deluxe, with the Ninja heats...

I would definitely say the X2 would be a better investment. In a couple of years time, we should start seeing multithreaded software become more common, and then the X2 will have aged a lot less than any single core CPU. If you aren't planning on having the nForce4 chipset in the WC loop, I'd go for...

I've dealt with Silicon Acoustics before to import a Smartdrive 2002 to Australia. Yes, expensive, but they were quick and friendly. IIRC it only took about a week once I had paid to arrive here. I used the Moneybookers service to transfer the money, which worked perfectly.
