nVidia Tesla for F@H?
These look interesting: http://www.nvidia.com/object/tesla_computing_solutions.html Maybe they could be utilized with F@H, too? If I have understood correctly they are pretty much like GPUs and thus with proper drivers would be pretty good for folding. But then again I understand very little about t...

One day I was a little bored and started to browse the pictures on NASA's website, NASA's own pictures proved that the landings were a HOAX. However a HOAX as elaborate as the moon landings gains my acceptance as it is just propoganda, thousands of people didnt die. Would you mind pointing us to th...

About the molten steel: I just pulled this out of thin air, but would it be possible for burning aluminium to melt steel? I'm too lazy to look this up, but I bet that burning Al could do it. The plane was almost completely made of Al so there would have been plenty of pulverized aluminium around to ...

There was just the one question about large work units. Is that correct? How much does this increase the memory demands of the app? I recently upgraded to 1GB so I should be OK in any case. Dunno if this helps or not, but at the moment my both FahCore_78 processes use 107 mb of memory. I think I've...

Got a new system running today. Core Duo 2400T sitting on a Aopen i975-aYDG. I'm still tweaking this thing, but it should be folding two instances most of the time starting... now. Gotta do some more overclocking tomorrow. I already hit the 199MHz FSB limit and I'm too lazy to pull off those jumpers...

This is why I can't stand Apple. These prices are a bit outdated, but... We've got some PowerMac G5s here at work, just the CASE would cost over $600. For EACH of these. The mice, about $70 each. For a one-button, stupid-looking optical mouse. We quickly replaced them with Microsoft mice. The monit...

Vihta , On the subject of passive cooling, I am just awaiting delivery of a WACC 1000mm Resevoir/Cooler (next day or two) along with their CPU block and will report as soon as I have it installed. New box for folding
It's time for a new box again and I'd like to hear some recommendations about which way to go. So far I've been thinking of these two setups: 2x AMD Opteron 244 (468€) K8T Master2-FAR (~200€) 2Gb 400 MHz DDR (~200) total: 868€ or: 2x Intel Xeon 2.8GHz DP (FCBGA), 800MHz FSB, 1MB cache. (~450€) Asus ...

I have only my PIV 2400@3GHz folding 24/7
My laptop (A64 3000+) folds every now and then and in the coming days I'll get one MacMini folding 24/7. Dunno if it's any good, though.
So, not all that much firepower here.

So far I've had whining problems with Nexus 4090 PSU and LG 99G monitor . The monitor problem isn't that bad because it's not switched on when I sleep, but the Nexus is pretty bad. In fact the noise was so awful that I ended up selling the PSU. The Nexus whined under all conditions. Idle, load, hot,...

Re: Slight buzz
I just bought a 4090, unfortunately it gives off a slight electrical buzz which is not loud but definately both more irritating and louder than the 120mm fan. :( I read somewhere else in the forum that the buzz could be unit dependant? Did I just get unlucky or is this a common problem? What gets m...

What's worth it in folding?
I couldn't find any good info about this anywhere so I'll ask. What do you guys think that is the minimum usable CPU speed in folding nowadays? I'm curious to know because I could get a PIII 800MHz XEON system for about 80€. Should I get it for folding? I have no idea how the PIII Xeons perform. The...

Today I took out the papst in the PSU and replaced it with a 120mm Nexus. Man, what a difference! The single Artic Cooling 80mm fan @10v sucking air out of the case is now the loudest part I think. I'm gonna replace it with a Nexus 80mm or something... These are all just temporary until my Nexus 409...
