WD 8TB RED questions (AAM levels and wdidle)

I just purchased a 8TB drive and it's not as quiet as the former 4TB Green when it comes to reads and writes, this despite being in a soft mounted Scythe Quietdrive. Instantly I wanted to disable head parking as I usually do with WD drives but this doesn't seem to work at all. Is there a newer tool ...

Re: Silent keyboards to buy in Scandinavia

This is an old topic but just wanted to write that the Cherry eVolution Stream XT is terrific. Much more sturdy than the ones I've had before, Logitech and Fractal Design.

Re: AMD RX 480 reference card

So I purchased the MSI 480 8GB and it is as the reviews point out completely silent in windows, but the fans can speed up quite a lot in some games like Far Cry primal, whilst being close to quiet in Fallout 4. As I wrote before I have the Arctic Cooling S3 for it, but for some reason as I have trie...

Re: Do 144hz monitors make any noise?

Hi, I just got a 144Hz Asus mg279q, and while I only tested it in 120Hz, not 144Hz, due to some issues, (my 290X only has 1 dp output) but it is absolutely silent in operation. It is as silent as my previous silent displays. edit: got tid of popping in standby, was caused by "render standby" settin...

Re: AMD RX 480 reference card

Thanks for the response, should have checked the official website of course, but a bit on the tired side (no vacation for over a year now).. Well, I've already decided for a 8-pin card just not to put a strain on the 6-pin either, despite that I'm sure that my PSU can take it. There is a benefit to ...

Re: AMD RX 480 reference card

Does anyone know if this card is compatible with Arctic Cooling S1+ or the new S3? I bet I can still get it quieter than Asus, MSI or whatever solutions, three fans or not considering I cool a much warmer 280x with S1+ and a 700rpm fan (over the VRM section) and a 500rpm.

What are the hole distances?

Re: How to reduce noise of Asus R9 280x Directcu II

I've used Arctic Cooling S1+ with a 700rpm 12cm fan over the VRM part of the card and a 12cm fan over the other area. Works like a charm.

Not sure if this cooler is still available but the S3? should do the trick.

Re: Elastic suspension: Still getting loud seek noise?

I used to experiment for many, many hours to get the noise down and from my experience nothing beats foam, but make sure that it is thick enough to eat up the vibrations. A quiet drive on foam (and not touching anything else) is unbeatable especially with WD Greens and reds. On nights I only hear th...

Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna start out by trying the Cherry, if that doesn't work then I will go to the next two suggestions.

Yes, that is an option, but the downside is that the buttons don't quite match with the PC enviroment.

Silent keyboards to buy in Scandinavia

Ok, so my Fractal Design Linear died a couple of days ago, and I need a replacement. I bought quite blindly a Logitech K290 which is advertised as quiet, but upon using it I discovered that that is not the case. Also, the keyboard doesn't as have the F1-12 keys enabled but other functions instead, s...

I have both and both are very quiet, but it's very difficult for me to compare since they are in in softmounted Scythe quietdrives. I would go with the EZRX because of one less platter.

True, I got one yesterday. Transfer raters is 20-30MB/s faster than EARX but access time has increased from about 15.4 to 17.

Actually no, I have the titanium now, I just haven't updated my signature. I replaced the xtremegamer because a PCI-E card left more room for the graphiccard and its cooler.

You need to boot into dos-mode. And then type "wdidle3 /d" to disable the headpark. There's nothing more to it.

The parking problem can easily be fixed on the WD's. For a secondary drive I went with a WD20EARX. It's very quiet.

Re: Barracuda Green vs Caviar Green (2Tb)

WD20EARX is very quiet, more so than the Samsung F4 (which works better as a system drive because of the better access time). I would recommend fixing headparking if you get a WD though.

Re: Accelero S1 Rev.2 for HD6850/HD6870/5870

I think the fins were a bit too close to the I/O bracked and I didn't have a dremel so that had to do. Looks do not matter, I just can't place two fans on it, that's really the only difference. 2000rpm would drive me nuts. Below 800rpm is mostly good, but they need to be softmounted too.

Re: Accelero S1 Rev.2 for HD6850/HD6870/5870

Ended up getting a 6850 myself, specifically a Sapphire hd6850 1GB toxic for 1/3 of the original price. The cooler however isn't quiet enough, but I had a AC S1 rev B lying around since I last used 4770. Toxic also isn't cool enough, so here's my chance to use the AC S1 once again. Luckily the toxic...

Re: Antec 280 OMG!

Well, the Fractal Design R3 looks like a P180 clone. :) I have built some R2's and they are not as good in quality as the p182. The backside is more open on the p280 than p182 And if you look at the top, it seems to just be one layer of metal, unlike the p182 which has three layers, making the case...

Got myself a F4 2TB drive...and my boot time is much better in a freshly installed Windows 7 with programs and such than in this review.

Boottimer measures 44-46 seconds.

Looks like a Scythe Himuru...which I own as well as the Quiet Drive. Himuru isn't as effective but works a bit better with some higher vibrating hdds because the top surface vibrates less than the surface of QD. Still QD is better at silencing hdds so that is the one I'd recommend first. Both should...
