Re: SilverStone Precision PS07: Budget MicroATX Tower

Just adding two cents here. I own a PC07. I noticed in the review photos that the power supply was mounted with the fan aimed up, which is logical enough considering the vent on top of the case, but the PS07 owner's manual says that "if the power supply has a build-in (sic) 120mm fan or larger, we r...

Nice review, as usual for SPCR.

The article states that the Kabuto does not come with an LGA1366 mounting frame, but the one I bought and installed in a Core i7 system last month did include one...so maybe they've started to include one in the packaging.

Just a little note here. I am a fan of Geeks, in fact live less than a mile from them and have been a regular in their retail showroom for 4+ years. Having said that, they are one of the places where "refurbished" can mean the same thing as "used". Not saying that's the case here, necessarily, just ...

I've done some minor work (quieter system fan and hard drive) on my Sun Ultra 5, which is even older than the Ultra 60 and is a desktop rather than a tower like yours. Personally, I'd open up the case first and see if there's some simple swapping out of parts that you can do, rather than mutilate th...

You mentioned mATX. There are several different, decent mATX A64 boards available. Not the latest, greatest and fastest, but more than good enough for me. Th...

I'll throw in another vote for the Inwin micro-ATX cases. Accepting a regular ATX power supply is handy. I've also noticed that they now have newer versions which have a "120mm" power supply, slightly different ducting, and room for a 92mm fan in the rear. Anyway, they're worth taking a look at.

Vinyl dye works pretty well if you find a case that you otherwise like, though it is a minor project. The problem might be finding it in "pink". Most of the places I've seen it are auto parts stores, and don't recall seeing that color.

You already spent a bunch of money on other stuff; why get cheap over small differences in cases? Essentially all they are is a box to put the rest of your components in. Get one you like the looks of, that's reasonably priced, and a decent inexpensive power supply like the Fortron or one of the oth...

Yeah, seems like you should start with those 60mm fans, maybe see if you can get by without the intake ones and just use one as an exhaust. That is something no-cost (assuming you don't burn anything up!) you can try, to start with. Wouldn't jump right into applying sound deadening (a band-aid appro...

How about remoting every component, including the monitor, mouse, and keyboard, to another room? I guess the only drawback would be that you'd have to move to the other room, too, but if you're going for true silence be prepared to make some sacrifices.

LushMD, that Leadtek motherboard sounds nice. Are you sure it has s-video out, though? Kind of hard to tell from the blurb on their web site or in the pictures.
Three PCI slots seem plenty these days...still seems a shortage of reasonably priced, compact, nice looking cases, though.
