Re: buy later?

A question for the Macheads here: Does it make sense to wait till the "middle of the year" when tiger (OSX 10.4) comes out and buy the Mac Mini with this improved OS? Thanks. If you wait awhile for Tiger, you'll get it for free instead of $100. I'm not guessing any changes will be done for awhile, ...

Anyway, only 2 USB ports are embarrasing, you use one for keyboard/mouse, and then you got one left... Every Mac keyboard has two ports on it as well. Plus, have you never used a hub? Yeah but on the other hand there's no keyboard included!! A hub???!? What's that?? Come on, even most ...

Buy. Reformat. Windows XP. Can you say, HTPC/Basic Workstation? ;P Mac OSX performs most computing tasks better than Windows XP, with the exception of gaming. Creative (as much as they suck) and other companies offer USB2 sound cards, with 7.1 digital output. VLC for Mac will play pretty much anyth...

I'm wary of any application that fails to list actual system requirements. In fact, even if listed, most are overblown.

My 2.4c with 512mb and a cheap Volari video card runs Doom 3 just fine.

It's a good finishing touch, but not the end-all of PC silencing. You'd be better off just finding a kid with braces, and stealing four of the little rubber bands for his teeth. They slip right over the power supply screws, and work nicely.

Welcome to the world of craptastic onboard sound.

Buying a proper sound card and speakers will solve most all of your interference problems.

Undampened, yes. Covered in PaxMate or similar, no. Think of it this way. A bb leaves a bb gun at around 200mph. If you shoot a bb at a wall, it bounces off. What would a truck traveling at 200mph do to the same wall? Crash right through. It's helpful to think of high and low frequency sound waves a...

I'm going to assume the internal fan control software on the 6800GT would dislike having it's fan disconnected.

I'm also going to assume that because the heatsink on that factory BFG card is sealed at the top, no airflow is going to reach the core where it's needed.

Having used both a Northwood core Pentium 4 2.4C HT 800 and an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ on my current setup, I will tell you that HyperThreading works much better in everyday tasks than it does on the charts and graphs. Going from two very similar CPUs, the same amount of ram, and the same everything els...

The stats are in the MyRigs link in my signature. In addition to what's posted there, I will be overclocking to approximately 3.6GHz and running the BH5 at 3.0V+. Right now I have 2x120mm SilentAcoustica fans on resistors, one 90 on a variable resistor on the XP90, and one super-low rpm fan sitting...

Post your stats. I highly doubt you need 400+ watts of power. My machine has a 2.4 P4, three hard drives, two optical drives, and a full slew of PCI cards. I use a 300w Seasonic and have room to spare.

Future silent Voodoo 5 5500 AGP project

I'm a big fan of silent computing, and have built a decent little machine for myself. I don't do much gaming, that's what the XBox, PS2 and GameCube are for. However, I do play a number of older, obsolete games. A few examples are Quake II, Counter-Strike, NIRA, and some others. I currently use a Ch...
