Re: Newbie Silences Sonata...Lessons Learned

4. I can now hear my HSF even @45%, so I backed it down to 37%. At 37% a whirr from the HSF is just noticeable. I installed a Zalman Fanmate and turn it way down to 1500 rpm at CPU idle, and the mb fan control will spin it up when busy. Of course, I will turn out the rpm manually if I encode a divx...

I had a slot 1 P2 at 450Mhz, took off the CPU heatsink fan, and 7V the PSU fan with the PSU inside the case. So I don't think it is necessary to move the PSU outside the case.

I do have another 5V fan blowing at the HD to keep my most valuable asset running.

If it has long enough cables, we could put the PSU outside the case.

Athlon64: Albatron K8X800 Pro II (Undervolts, no north bridge fan) 3000+/512k or 3200+/1mb I got the A64 3000+ and very happy with it. I use MSI K8T NEO since it supports the cool'n' quiet feature. For normal application, the A64 run at 800MHz and consume only 35W. My fan is currently spinning at 3...

Re: Pentium 4M mini-itx dream plateform ???

But where to get thoose peaces of hardware ? :( Is it possible to by this motherboard somewhere ? Is it possible to by a pentium 4M alone somewhere ? What do you think of this :?: Based on that link, Commel seems to do OEM only so it is unlikely that we can find it anywhere. But if you find one, pl...

That is bad. Looks like we may have to go for a Centrino notebook, or wait forever for someone to make a Centrino motherboard :(

Thank you.

Similiar wattage? No way! The VIA cpus are around 15w last I heard... Intel Pentium-M (Banias) at 1.1G is 12W according to Processor Electrical Specifications if we compare the C3 at similar speed. Faster Banias are not bad either: 1.3G & 1.4G at 22W, 1.5G & 1.6G at 24.5W! I say those are pretty go...

From what I've read on forums.anandtech.com in the CPU forum, the P4M will drop right into to any s478 p4 board.. Thanks for the links. One of them has a note that say "default voltage is 1.3v". I guess that means we should select a undervoltable motherboard to get the lowest temp. Perhaps somethin...

Mobile Pentium 4M in a normal motherboard?

Is the Mobile Pentium 4M drop-in compatible with mainstream Pentium 4 motherboard? Looking at the Processor Electrical Specifications , the mP4M-2.4 is only 46.6W. Would be sweet if we can just drop one of those into a normal motherboard! mini-itx.com recently reported Commell Systems Corporation in...

Silencing a Tivo/DishPVR with gel pad

Just got a Tivo like PVR from DishNetwork for an extra $5 a month. Pretty good deal. However, it is so noisy that my PC is quieter than it. The noise come from resonance since the PVR is put in a built-in cabinet. If I pick up the unit, the noise dramatically decreased. Tried to put some soft foam u...

I think I'll change the old fan in the power supply to a new shiny Papst 80mm. I had a $20 Papst at 7V but got the same clicking sound as other experienced. I currently have a Panaflo L1A at 7V on my PSU and it is quiet enough. Check out the Hot Deals forum since you can find a Panaflo L1A at $3.19...

I did just that, with the window foam strip. It seems to remove a little bit of vibration. Not much, but I FEEL better with the strip that.

Got a slot 1 Pentium II 450Mhz running fanless with the retail heatsink for a year now 24/7 without problem.

The PSU fan is 7V. Have another 5V fan blowing my 80G Barracuda IV, which is placed on soft form at the bottom of the case.

I can only hear it at the middle of the night.

For example, can we build a silent system that require 165W if we use 3 of these 55W PSU?
