Re: Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z All-In-One Desktop PC

I've seen other Youtubes showing them as a two-player game console: chess, table tennis, etc. AIO's will replace desktops. They have industry replacable / upgradable components inside. My wife (Hong Kong born) is very happy with her new 'toy'. Since most of those AIO use laptop parts, i have yet to...

Re: Lenovo ThinkCentre M92z All-In-One Desktop PC

http://www.silentpcreview.com/Lenovo_ThinkCentre_M92z Noticed many comments from uninformed dinosaurs before I added this comment. They seem to not understand 'silent' PCs. Check the Youtube videos, "Windows 8 all in one pc" ... specically ... "Sony VAIO Tap 20 Unveiled" and "HP Envy 23 TouchSmart ...

Re: [ASUS Eee PC 1000HE Netbook] fan noise.

This seems to be a common issue with these. Its fan noise for sure. I have loaded up eeectl with a custom fan profile that makes it much quieter but the fan is awful on this thing. Some out there are taking them apart and lubing the bearings but I hate to chance it. I cant seem to locate a replacem...

Re: Is there such thing as a quiet laptop/notebook?

Dell is sorta quiet, what other brands compare? Anybody use MSI, or Asus? Thanks in advance. As Allan stated, you can't simply list brands and say they are quiet. I have an Asus eeePC 701 that's wonderful. ... CUT ... So once I've taken care of the hd and fans I zero in on the CPU and the screen to...

Re: Need help quieting down my notebook

Hi, I own a Clevo W860cu(aka Sager NP8690) with a cooling system that generates alot of noise. The cooling system consists of two fans, one for the cpu(intel core i7m) and one for the GPU(ati 5870m). I cannot provide any noise levels(dB levels) but my personal opinion is that it is much to loud. Wh...

Ideas on cutting out the grills

i think that if most of the people don't cut out the case grills it's because it also means removing the motheboard so that no metal particles get caught up in the moto and burns it, and in my case removing the moto is a pain in the ass, so if you have any ideas on how cutting out the grills ( rear...

Use a cheap infra-red thermometer. And incense smoke!

Why not try negative case pressure? If you are concerned about dust, maybe you can filter the other opennings in the case. Currently it is running on a negative pressure setup. Just the stock fan is in place, and all the front is sealed up with HVAC tape, as you can see in the pics above. So far, t...

Use masking tape, hot melt glue !

In reading the previous messages, it might be helpful if you use what I use. To solve the problem of screwing & un-screwing, deliberately or not, I make frequent use of hot-melt glue, and / or masking tape. Older cases use screws. I use masking tape, for frequent & quick removal of the panels. Maski...

In my experience with the low air resistance, low fan speed, low noise technique, it worked best with the side cover on. This directs the air flow properly. I don't think you'll be able to adopt this technique fully, but you can do a lot of it. In your situation, it sounds like you'll need to use a...

Re: Low air resistance, low fan speed, low noise technique

I've built hundreds of computers, and I've come to the conclusion, that using filters will keep the computer a little cleaner on the inside, but causes them to be louder. This is because you have to run the fans much faster to compensate for the poor air flow. <SNIP> .... Very good thread. My niece...

Actually, I know that both Maxtor and Seagate have an "acoustic management" utility to control the amount of noise a hard drive makes. I have two Barracuda IVs, which are very quiet out of the box. I then decided, like you, that I wanted to hear the drives when they were working. So I downloaded th...

How am I unkind by pointing out the obvious? cschofie's systems draw at most 40% of the rated power of the Zalman 300W. OK, we need headroom, I agree, but 60% seems like a bit of overkill, don't you think? ... What I AM saying is that PSU requirements are generally overestimated. If you do run into...

My Barracuda IV is suspended by elastic rope. When I first installed it, it was (accidentally) gently touching/resting against the front wall of the case. The noise was unbelievable - you could hear it in the room next door! Guess I got just the right pressure against the case for maximum noise! :l...

My recently purchased notebook computer (CD-DVD-RW, USB, Firewire, etc) is noisy ... because it uses a Desktop INTEL CPU, since the high-powered mobile CPU's did not exist when it was purchased.

How to INCREASE the hard disk noise ??

Sometimes I need to LISTEN to the HDD - is it faulty/ too busy/ ... ? 1) So which are the noisy HDD'S? High or Low air humidity: which is better ?

Air humidity can be controlled - up or down. Which is better? Dry air might increase electrostatic dangers and remove the danger of moisture condensation if the electricity stops. Moist air might increase fungus/ mold growth, decrease electrostatic danger, increase the heat removal. But is the incre...

How do we mold/ drill/ bend/ shape the materials?

I'm not a chemist - just an ignorant ex-handyman. 1) with solid plastics - shaping/ cutting/ drilling use a heat-controlled soldering iron. But beware not to breath in the "fumes". Clean the soldering iron whilst hot with tissue/ toilet paper. 2) thin sheet-aluminum - cut with sheet cutters, jigsaw,...

The shops usually sell electronic parts or units. Repair places of the above parts or units.

At some specialized computer auctions, there's large "junk" computer stuff, particularly old heat sink units that can be retrieved from heavy, old units.

Enjoyed this thread. It's given me ideas too.

Other methods of "Silencing"

I'm new to this site. So excuse me if I'm repeating ideas already mentioned. But in the "List of Contents" or Index to this site, I see no mention of my suggestions below. 1) Networking (wired or wireless) away from the noisy units (not just putting the case in a desk or cabinet). 2) Air-In & Air-Ou...
