Yep, very lucky! Funny part was my wife had no idea why I was so mad at first and then why I was so happy! I've been working on computers for ~15 years and I just proved your never too experienced to do something boneheaded!! The whole time I was using the windows flash utility I was thinking...

Got My Passive Gigabyte Geforce 6800 NU - WOW & WOOPS!
Well, I got my Gigabyte Geforce 6800NU yesterday.. This is the Passively cooled version.. Installed without issue. It's awesome and it's obviously silent! BUT, I couldn't leave good enough alone... I decided to Flash the VGA bios to the latest posted on Gigabytes site as it supposedly speeds things ...

Quietest AMD64 Cooler that uses Stock Retention Mechanism?
Hello, My machine is all installed and running very smoothly, but I have this itch to replace the Stock AMD64 cooler @ 5v with something with a bit better cooling performance.. But since everything is connected and running, I don't really feel like taking it apart and removing my Mobo to install a n...

Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not, BUT I posted in aanother thread that I was able to undervolt my 2800+ S754 CPU all the way down to 1.075v. What's wierd is that I too had the whine until I started undervolting. It wasn't loud at all, but definitely noticeable. I think it was aroun...

Who needs C'N'Q with a undervolt of 1.075 on my 2800+ AMD64
All, Thought I'd share some "cool" results...(at least for me it's pretty cool!). I have the ASRock Combo-Z mobo with a S754 2800+ AMD64 in it. I got this mobo specifically so I could upgrade to a S939 processor when available. But, it included a nice surprise....highly configurable bios (even multp...

Is it safe to fanmate my Stock AMD64 Cooler?
Ok, I'm scraping together enough $ to get a high end HSF, but for now, I'm stuck with Stock AMD64 HSF. My idle CPU temps are around 34C and up to 49C at load. Will it be safe to place a fanmate on it to take it down to 5v? It's the loudest part in my machine by far.
Thx

Zalman 400 or Seasonic Tornado for Airflow 'Challenged' Case
Hello, I have a case that doesn't exactly breath well! :) Net, temps are probably higher than most. Also, I need a 400W PSU. I know the Seasonic got a better review than Zalman, but since my temps will be higher, will that big fan be ramped up most of the time? Therefore, eliminating it's silent edg...

Does NV Silencer 4 take up more than one PCI slot?
I have board that has 1 AGP and 3 PCI. I need 2 PCI slots (firewire/tv card) If I get the NV Silencer, will it take up more than one PCI Slot next to AGP slot?

I recently took the Athlon 64 plunge and took a risk on the ULi m1689 based ASRock K8 Combo-Z... Surprisingly, the board has turned out to be AWESOME. The bios allows voltage adjustment from .8-1.55 and has support to toggle Cool N' Quiet... It even has overclocking features (not for me though) in t...

I was doing a little surfing, and ran across this mobo: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-157-035&depa=1 It supports both socket 754 and 939. Although interesting, that's not what peaked my interest... This mobo utilizes the M1689 chipset from ULI. If you visit this page: ...

Perf Diff? : AMD64 2700+ Mobile vs. Amd Athlon XP2500+
Hello, I currently have an Athlon 2500+ and I'm getting this itch to go 64bit. Problem is, my budget was suddenly constrained (mom's machine barfed...) Net, I only really have ~$300 for my upgrade.. Here's my question, how much difference in performance will there be between an AMD64 2700+ Mobile an...

Glad to hear a first hand account. I agree, it does seem simply amazing that a case designer would implement a front case fan, but not include any intake opening.... Although more expensive, I may just go and build a 'reference' spcr system with Fong Kai FK333, Seasonice Super tornado 300, and some ...

Thanks guys.. Sounds like a dud.. Why is it so hard to design a nice looking, quiet case that also has good 'flow'... I did find 1 review that actually gives it a favorable score in terms of temperatures and ventilation...but, no real specifics.... Here's the link: http://www.thecrucible.ca/reviews/j...

Just PC Gazelle Case?
Hello SPCR Experts! I stumbled across this case and wondered if any has every heard of it or had experiences with it... http://www.justpcusa.com/g-ga899wh.htm It's a nice looking class with stealthed drives, tooless design etc.. The front intake looks horrible/non-existant, but it also has a bottom ...
