Sony VAIO R Series VGC-R

Call it a bikini minitower: Sony Electronics' new Vaio desktop PC chassis has a gap or air intake in the middle instead of the front. Combined with a liquid-cooled heat exchanger and smaller, efficient fans, Sony says, the black case's airflow design drastically reduces ambient noise to increase en...

yea, you gotta give a good yank on those stock northbridge chipset heatsinks...the thermal material used -- as you shall soon find out -- is more like tough, old bubble gum than quality product you'd see with Arctic Silver, etc.

Try the Digital Doc 5 -- I believe this product is still offered in either beige, black, or silver (I own an un-used beige one that I never got to installing). The build quality is great and the LCD has a backlight...You might wanna check out some reviews on it.

I wouldn't be quick to blame the issue on 512MB of RAM as my school PC lab (which is used for game development) consists of Dell Dimension XPS' equipped with only 512MB DDR 400 and they all run Far Cry easily with lots of eye candy (of course, their 3GHz CPUs and 128MB Radeon 9800 Pro's help too :D ).

Yea, mounting a HD vertically shouldn't be a problem as the previous line of Dell Dimensions circa 1999-2000 used cases that placed the HD vertically at the front of the case (I would know as I had a version of the non-branded case used by Dell -- a case I would NOT recommend, btw, for housing a pow...

For Users with Zalman VGA Heatpipe Cooling: InWin x710 Case

This case may be of interest to SPCR members for its expansion slot structural bracket that keeps cards in place (very similar to the feature found on ARM System's new case). Here's a link for those interested.

If you plan on ducting that CPU with the stock Intel heatsink, I certainly would suggest you to use a larger heatsink such as an Alpha (which is specifically designed for "sucking" airflow).

Oh, and, btw, the problems with this particular PSU are sort of sketchy...My particular revision does still have the "no start fan" (with a light whine/buzzing noise) symptom occasionally, but it runs well and silent...but yes, there are several cases of the newer revisions having very loud fans.

I believe the 3-pin wire with blue and black colors with you PSU is used to monitor the PSU's fan RPM. Plugging it into your motherboard is the way to go!
