That and the fact that the new one is installed by pushpins, something a lot of people complain about. You have to get bolts (with isolating spacers for the undermotherboard) to install it properly. http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/2313/img0025qf3.jpg http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthrea...

Asus has 8 phase power and Gigabytes 12 phase power. Both claim it reduces power use. Another thing is that the P5K3 (DDR2 and DDR3) uses 10 watts extra compared to P5K (DDR2). Maybe that's why the P5K3 has an extra heatpipe. Well the most important thing is that the extreme heat issue is just a lie...
Bluefront, there are NOT a bunch of variables involved. Rotating a computer case by 90 degrees or 180 degrees changes exactly one variable--the direction of gravity. i hate to argue trivialities, but you do mean to say, "change the direction of gravity with respect to the orientation of the case".....
@ryboto Not Prescotts but Quad cores that are already at 150W now. Intel is adding cache and ramping up speed. So my guess the power usage will grow. Without searching google to see if my suspicions were correct, I thought I'd read that the original intel quads had a 125W thermal envelope...and it ...

I'm going to check their site in August :-) I didn't know the heat pipes could be swapped around. I assumed the had f...
I didn't get the P5K deluxe bord on eBay. My bid was to low... That's a fairly high end mobo I think. I noticed my "DDR" typo. It should have been "DDR2" I really like the Asus P5K range of mobos. The only hard choice is if I should choose one of the normal DDR2 boards or the board that accepts DDR2...
2.5" HDs can get to hot too. Maybe not due to heat generated by themselfs but case temps. 75C is a bit high. HDs really dislike such temps. Somehow I think heatpipes are the way forward in silent computing. Nowadays you see a lot of heat pipes (CPU/GPU/NB) but they all transfer the heat to the wrong...
We all agree hot air rises. The main problem is to determine if it's effective enough. To make it work best the temp difference must be as big as possible. That's no problem when using the same logic in a fireplace to get rid of the smoke. But our aim is to get the case temp at room temp. So no temp...
That church picture is a good illustration of convection at work. People in the church generate the heat, the heated air goes straight upward, going out the top hole, and pulling air inward through openings at the bottom level. Now if we could make a computer with a similar-looking interior..... :l...
So simply put: If the memory and the FSB match speedwise it doesn't matter if DDR-1 DDR-2 or DDR-3 is used? DDR-3 is just internally (inside the memory module) diffrent from DDR-1 and DDR-2. A bit like this picture shows. http://www.lostcircuits.com/memory/ddr3/timing2.gif Different on the inside bu...
I've googled a bit for teh diffrence between DDR2 and DDR3. The most intresting diffrence is that DDR3 has/promisses double the DDR2 bandwidth. Benchmarks show that DDR3 currently has no performance benefit over DDR2. I'm sure DDR3 will outperform when it is more mature. In the next 1-2 month I'll s...
Well, reading the whole story helps understand why : http://www.tweaktown.com/news/7496/index.html - story short: propaganda, maybe even lies? ..... C'T is one of the best printed PC magazines; so I put some trust in their numbers.
34Watt extra. I wonder why.
Just crappy design? Or because it has all kind of extra's ?
Can 34Watt generate such a heat diffrence?
Does anyone have any opinions on the suitability of the new P35 chipset motherboards for building a quiet system. .......... http://images.tweaktown.com/imagebank/news_gigaasusttst.pdf ASUS P5K Deluxe was high on my buying list until I found the above article. The board gets up to 64C hotter than the GIGABYTE P35-DQ6 The very high temps won't do much good for component life. Asus being a solid brand and the fact I can't f...
Yeah, I guessed that much
But it also means its a different model.
Most likely there are no performance differences; but lets say I've gotten over cautious over the years...
I can only find the above PSUs.
Their modelnumbers are slightly diffrent from the ones in the PSU.
Are it the same ones as in the review that's 7 months old now.
@vortex222 I don't expect my case to be quiet but just more silent. I hate the sound of the fans/airflow. That can be fixed I think. My Raptor drives can't be silenced and I'm not prepared to replace them with something else. I'll certainly take your PSU recommendation in consideration. It gets good...
you have to be really carefull when you start putting fans on the bottom of your case, or anywhere else where you will have a solid surface too close to the fan. I think bluefront tested it out and figured you need to have a minimum of around 40mm clearance in front of a fan or it will generate mor...
By contrast, a cheap aluminum case will resonate like crazy and amplify many irritating noises... Does my Cooler Master Stacker case fall in that category. It wasn't exactly cheap, but aluminium doesn't feel so heavy/strong. Maybe a old fashioned steel case is a better choice. I chose that Stacker ...
