Re: AMD A8-3850 Quad Core Desktop APU

Speaking of undervolting, I wonder how a Llano APU would respond, considering SPCR's sample ran at 1.40v... a lot of volts for even a 65nm CPU.

Re: Kingwin Lazer Platinum 550W Power Supply

Wow, that's some seriously high efficiency there. Under the hood the layout looks super-clean, and with the platinum efficiency, even the small heatsinks are certainly going to have no problem with the VERY little heat this thing produces.

In my experiences of working around Dell desktops, there are several different models that are very quiet, and others brutally loud. Here are some of my observations: Dell Dimension 4300/4400: Brutally loud motor noise even with the 92mm exhaust fan running at 1,100rpm Dell Dimension 2350: Fan speed...

The 5,756rpm spindle speeds of the Pipelines reminds me of some earlier SCSI disks that spun at 6,300rpm and the WDxxxAB drives that spun at 6,000rpm (of course the Pipeline makes 2% of those drives' noise). It seems that Seagate is taking a more performance-oriented approach with their Pipeline as ...

The reason that people buy Zalman is because they have visually-pleasing heatsinks that perform well. The 7000AlCu had the perfect balance of price-performance-low noise for Socket A/478 for its time and it's interesting how that design (7700, 8700, VF700 and VF900) has evolved. Some of these Dell fans can be fairly loud, and of course it depends on the fan's make, the case used, and the CPU used. They tend to use fans from JMC, NMB, Nidec, and Delta. In my experiences, the Dimension 2400s tend to use the quietest fans (airflow and motor). For many other Dimensions, the mot...

I'm guessing about 2 watts max on startup (at 0-100 rpm) with the Fanmate turned up to maximum. At minimum, you can expect the power draw to be less than 1 watt for both fans combined. You could add more to that Fanmate and still be safe...as long as power draw is less or equal to .50 amp / 6 watts ...

Since the case has only 80mm fans, a quiet system with the components in your sig may actually be more difficult than in your SLK3700 (from your sig). Smaller fans = more RPMs / unit of air = more noise. But the case does look really really good.

Note: This CPU came with the Aluminum cooler with 70mm fan (no heatpipes). Is there any correlation between the CPU's stock cooler and it's TCaseMax?

The 4200+'s undervolted and overclocked to 1.25v and 2.42GHz.

Try orienting the Mine so that the fan's exhaust goes toward the rear exhaust fan, if possible. If the Mine's fan and the case exhaust fan fight against each other, performance will suffer.

That is really weird... a block of aluminum (with no heatpipes) outperforming the Mine? Maybe that rear 120mm case fan is helping it out...either that or thermal compound application might've been "off" on the other two. Or mounting pressure. What's that Alpine cooling?

In order for the Wake on Keyboard/Mouse/LAN/Ring, etc.... to work, the power supply must still be switched on. Even though the computer may appear to be off, the +5Vsb (standby) line is still active so that those "Wake on" events can turn the system back on without pressing the power button.
