Some hope in the horizon for People with Alzheimer

Check this article out:

I hope and pray that in the near future we dont need to fold for this disease anymore.

The only exception being a single core hyperthreaded CPU.

I have a 3.0 GHz P4 630 Prescott that is running the SMP client 24/7 and it completes a Project 2653 work unit in 3 days (aprox).

The affinity utility helps out a little by making the individual processess not collide with one another in the CPU core. 1. Should this also not help with dual processors running a single instance of SMP? 2. Should this note help and multi-processors? Period. The affinity change makes sure that ea...

Let me rephrase that. I like how it was phrased just fine. 8) Nobdy s prfekt 8) I am currently running two SMP clients on each dual proc machine (HT enabled Xeons) and it is a 40-50% improvement over running one SMP client on the same machine. For a total of 4 cores? Well each machine has two hyper...

I am getting a 40-50% improvement in two dual proc systems.

OK, so I have one SMP client and the affinity changer installed.

How do I install and run a second SMP instance?

Thanks

I had all the problems you describe. I eventually gave up and started folding with the windows SMP client.

I used to shun the Win SMP client because there were some crappy WU for it; but lately all the WU are 1760 pts.

You may want to consider it.

It only checks for expiration when you start the client.

It will refuse to run next time you restart it.

You can install the new version over the old one (if it asks you if you want to uninstall the old one say no) and it will only take you a few minutes.

Cheers

Dont try to run two command line instances, run one SMP instance; its a lot more productive. I am not an expert but I am pretty sure that the mobile versions of the ATI graphics chipsets are not supported. You should read the GPU folding FAQ. you can find it here: http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-ATI...

I decided that my current system (the core2duo) would run at stock speed. I ended up buying good parts and the system is extremely quiet even though its running 24/7 at full load.

I highly recommend runing the SMP client instead of two (or even four) normal clients.

I am not overclocking any of the machines and I tend to believe that a lot of the instability people are experiencing with the SMP client is related to overclocking.

You can run the SMP client on a P4 with HT and it will double your PPD. Avi But you still run one SMP on a dual processor, yes? I wish I would have heard back from Avi_Dan. :? I am running this setup on a Core2Duo on WinXP and I am getting 1760 points every day or so... Dang, then I should set it up as well, it would triple my production. Feels unreal, what's the catch?
