Re: Phenom II X4 955 and Athlon II X4 640 idle power?

Thanks for all your input here! I think I will skip this upgrade now.
I will save the money for a larger upgrade in the future.

Re: Phenom II X4 955 and Athlon II X4 640 idle power?

Both of them are way overkill for a file server if you ask me. :) Yes the performance as file server is fine with my 4850e CPU. I am a little bit "torn between two hay taps" or what they say. It is nice to make use of my low power 4850e CPU, it works withot problems for most tasks, but a little bit...

Phenom II X4 955 and Athlon II X4 640 idle power?

Here is one comparison: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/cpu-benchmark-mainstream_10.html#sect1 I see that idle power consumption between Athlon II X4 640 and Phenom II 955 differs 5 W. This is not so much difference and price is almost the same so I am thinking of upgrading my file serv...

I think this page is more interesting: http://www.lostcircuits.com/mambo//index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=54&Itemid=1&limit=1&limitstart=4 So the Phenom II X4 810 is idling at only 7,2 W? And 60 W at full load. Maybe we can undervolt this like an X2 5000+ can be used as an 4850e with some ...

Another thing to consider is that the 80Plus rating is relevant only at a load range from 20% up to 100%. A lower wattage PSU is then approved for more than 80% effeciency at a lower load in Watts. So if you have an 80plus 400W PSU you know by the 80plus certification that at 80 W - 400 W total load...

Thank You very much! I will probably go for the Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H because it seems to fit my needs best. Or maybe I just rebuild one of my older computers. I have calculated that I would probably need to run my server maybe 5 years to save money with the lower power consumption if I include the...

There is good support for software raid using mdadm under linux, and then no raid controller at all is needed, just use the onboard SATA channels. There are some good options with a low power AMD CPU like 4850e and an AM2 motherboard with integrated graphics.

So which one did you choose and why? I am arguing with myself if I should get the Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H ATX board or the Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2H mATX board for my server. The price of GA-MA78G-DS3H is almost 50% higher here in Sweden and my experience is to not be "dumb cheap" when buying a main boa...

Now I have tried undervolting at stock frequency. It pass 1 hour OCCT mix autotest with 1,125 V set in bios which results in 1,07 V at load at 2667 MHz. Look at maybe the asus p5l-vm or mx. Then maybe you can clock it up a bit extra - although you'll probably top out at ~300 or so FSB, as no current C2D capable mATX board has PCI-e locks.
