Short version: I think you'll be OK if you are using a newer drive. Long version: Back when I worked in PC repair, the rule of thumb (or old wives' tale) among my fellow techs was to keep the drive running in whatever orientation it was in when it was formatted. (If I'm not mistaken, manufacturers a...

Whoops! Thanks for setting me straight frank. I knew the nexus 120 was a yate loon, and I simply assumed they all were. ...Kids, that's what happens when you make assumptions... Quick question: yate loon 80 goes up to 2200rpm That looks like the D80SM-12 listed on yate loon's website. Is the 8025M-1...

Ricky, L1A is good, but I would go with a Yate Loon instead. It moves the same amount (more?) air than the Panaflo, and has less bearing noise. You could get a Nexus I suppose, but Nexus are simply Yate Loon fans that have been re-branded. Yate Loon fans are also usually much cheaper. Here is the 80...

is that yateloon 8025m rated for better airflow than L1A? I can't find any specs on this fan either. I'm assuming this is a discontinued model. I don't have an anemometer or SPL meter, but in my (highly) subjective comparison with my L1A, the 8025M seemed to move as much or more air at a lower nois...

velvet45, Thanks for the tip. I actually have one of the 120s as my exhaust, but at 7V. I hard-wire all my fans to get the desired voltage, but I cannot get it to start wiring it for 5V (yes I double-checked my wiring). Luckily, it is still very quiet at 7V. I might pick up a fanmate and see if it s...

80mm Yate Loon from pctek - pics (56k warning)

If anyone is interesed in the 80mm medium-speed yate loon fans available from pctek, I am happy to report that they are very good. I tested them using the "wet finger" anemometer and the "six-inches-from-right-ear" SPL meter against my panaflo L1A. :) IMHO, the YL at 7V is quieter than than the L1A ...

yate loon 80mm - first impressions

I am thinking about ordering some, anyone know anything about the 80mm fan he has for $2.75 It's listed as a CF0808 It's a medium speed yate loon. I received my order of them today (along with a couple 120s - great recommendation Frank). I did some A/B testing with a panaflo L1A (Japan) at differen...

You could do a quick review of the 80mm version and include it in the thread, or maybe just send a picture showing the connector and the yate loon label. That's the plan. I won't be getting them until at least next week though - going to be out of town until Sunday. I will keep you posted on the 80...

pctekonline - yate loon 80mm also?

After following this post for a while, I decided to see if pctekonline has any other interesting fans. It seems the only other fan they stock looks like a Yate Loon 80mm. Again, no specs posted, and it's a lousy pic, but they are only $2.75/ea. or 10 for $20. http://store.yahoo.com/pctekonline/8cmca...

You're the first silencer I've come across on these forums who deliberately left a noisy component in his system just for the fun of silencing it! Besdes that, it's only a 9.1gig drive, so I have to be really stringent with my partitions, pagfile, etc. This with 700MB as a dedicated partition for u...

Good for a laugh - quieting a LOUD hdd!

Those who bemoan the noise in WD HDDs should get a kick out my system. A big thanks to the forum members for getting me on the quiet/silent bandwagon! Your advice and suggestions have been invaluable in my quest to not hear my PC running idle from the next room. Chenbro "Gaming Bomb" Xpider (I) case...
